Can anyone tell me what I am missing, the ashtray on my 70 SS hangs all the way open when I close it there ddoesnt seem to be anything to hold it up. It was like that when I got the car so I dont know if there is a spring or something missing.

The ashtray has two tabs on either side. They are about 1" long metal and have a nylon button on the end. The bracket has two corresponding indentations that the button rests in. One for the open position and one for the closed. Sounds like the nylon pieces are worn or missing.
BTW, you should see the seatbelts now. They look great!

There's a spring that regulates the ash tray. Its kind of flimsy and often is missing. I looked at about 6 cars in the salvage yard before I found one with a good spring. Its about 1-1.5" and coiled in the middle with 2 hooks on the end the fit into small holes on the parts of the tray.
