I am getting ready to paint the front bumper for my c5 vette. It is wide and clumsy. I have it on saw horses now but it is not on them that good. I was thinking of painting all the basecoat, then clearing the lower half and after that is cured I can put it flat on the saw horses so it is on them steady. Then water sand the part of the clear I will spray over and then blend into that part and clear the top. I can't paint it on the car because I won't be able to get the under side. Any ideas.

Oh yes for the guys who helped me on the hood, I finally got it done. It came out pretty good. I just have to give it one more pass with the compound and swirl remover.

I would try and find a way to hang it,or set it on something so you can spray the whole thing at once. Clearing the lower half and then trying to blend the clear coat is not a good idea. It CAN be done but I have never trusted the process of blending clear coat. Maybe someone else can tell you the best way to blend it, I would not try it...JMO....

Itwon't actually be blending it considering the clear will only be a few days old.

I would take a few 2x4s and build a rig to hold it as it sits on the car, but 3-4 feet high to ensure ability to coat the bottom.

Put a 2x4 in a ladder rung extending outward and then put a screw through an existing clip hole on the bumper to secure the bumper to the lumber. Repeat with a second ladder and possibly a brace or two and you're good. They also make bumper racks but you probably don't want one as you may not do this too much.
