OK....I'm stumped. 64 with a factory tilt wheel. How the heck do I remove the turn signal switch. There are no screws that I can see anywhere! The levers unscrew so they are out. I removed the flat spring and one tiny screw that I could see but it still won't budge. Here's a photo.

When I was searching, I found several posts that mention a cable running down inside the column on 66's. Is the 64 the same? Sure don't want to pull the whole column but will if I have to.
Answering my own question here. :D
Looks like all I need to do is clean the column mounted stuff up a little and look under the dash for my "switch". Photo from the Ground Up website.

It won't be long until you're the Team Chevelle '64 guru.
Did that fix the taillight/turn signal problem you were having?

Well...not exactly. I found and removed the old switch. It slides back and forth across the internal contacts OK, but with no detents at all. Smooth from one end to the other. Seems like it should at least hesitate at each position. So, I'm ordering a new one.
The cable that runs down inside the column is now loose. It fit under that little screw I removed. Something is not right in the mechanism up top. Even with the cable and large flat spring disconnected, I can not push the arm down (left turn). It goes up (right turn) fine. Hopefully it's just junked up in there.
Has anyone else been here on a 64-65-66 with tilt? If so, please give me a hint as to what to do next. I hate unresolved posts, so I will follow up with my solution......if I have one. :D

A followup. Had a chance to look again more closely. It seems the cable end has slipped off the plastic pivot arm that moves up or down depending on which way the lever is pushed. It was wedged in there keeping the lever from moving to the down position. The good news is that I freed it and the lever now moves easily in both directions.
The bad news is that it's going to be difficult to slip the end of the cable back on the pivot arm without removing the entire assembly. :(
"Patience, Grasshopper. Patience."
After probably 50 tries, I got the end of the cable back on the plastic pivot arm. :hurray:
Tools required were a "headlight" that clips to the bill of a baseball cap so I could see what I was doing and two small pick tools. One with about a 45* bend and one straight. Captured the round end of the cable with the bent pick...held it in place with the straight pick while I placed the pick end on the end of the pivot shaft. Released the straight pick and the cable slid down the shaft of the pick and onto the shaft of the pivot. Whew! I sure hope it doesn't come off again. :D
Replaced the flat spring and everything works great mechanically. Now to replace the switch.....which is what I set out to do in the first place!
