I've been looking around at all the power steering gear rebuilders (and new units) and I've come across a shop in Springfield, Missouri. Their website has a good FAQ on quik ratio upgrade/retrofits. Power Steering Systems (Powersteering.com) says they can exchange my unit for a remanufactured (v. just replacement of problem parts)unit for $220 (-$75 return core)This includes a new OEM. worm gear and power piston as well as rings, seals and honing, cleaning, etc.
They also will do a custom detail of the part for $70; that would be a powder coast finish and polish of alum. parts.
Sounds good, but has anyone here purchased a product from them? I know almost any major US City might have a couple of shops like this but I'd rather do business with someone who has a good report card from Team Chevelle members vs. just any shop at random.
What are your thoughts?

Thanks for reading this.

I am sure that there are a lot of good rebuilders out there. I am most familiar with a former Saginaw Steering Gear ride engineer who went off on his own and started TURNONE High Performance Steering Systems. He builds a lot of gears for NASCAR teams. His work isn't particularly cheap, but he really knows the gear inside and out.

His name is Jeff Roethlisberger and he can be reached by eMail: turnone@tir.com

A buddy of mine got the 12:1 retrofit from www.powersteering.com (http://www.powersteering.com) in his 69. it came out very nice. The only thing that happened was the guy told him the core he sent in couldn't be rebuilt and he had to pay money for another core. My buddy tried to rebuild the unit years before and it was sitting on a shelf for a long time so this could have been the case. I was planning on using this guy for the box in my 68 f-body, I have an 84 monte ss in my 66 abody.
