guys i need your expertise, i am in the middle of installing the bushings for the rear upper control arms in the rear end. i got the passenger side in after fighting it for a while. when i got the drivers side in about about halfway, i noticed it wont go in all the way because it hits the rear end. i cant find any info on this, all i know is all the parts books call for the same bushings. this is the correct rear end for this car (70 ss 396) i also noticed that the drivers side ear is offset a little. please help!!

are you saying the bushing is hitting the center section on the rear? There should be plenty of room on either side. You're not driving the bushing in all the way are you? it should set center of the bushing housing. 68-72 bushings have a shoulder on them that is half the length of the bushing. on the rear end you only knock or press them in to that shoulder. This will center the bushing. Is this the rear out of your car or did you purchase it from someone else? I ask because you say the ear looks offset. could have been broken and welded up to sell. BTW the bushing size is the same for all 68-72 A bodys regardless of 10 or 12 bolt.

michael, thanks , i was kind of wondering that. if i would have tried to press it in all the way, it definitely would have hit it. its the original rear end that came with the car. i found a footnote in the overhaul manual that says not to drive it in all the way. after doing all the other bushings, i took it for granted that they also got pressed in all the way. it would of helped if it wasnt sitting for almost 2 years since i took it apart. i guess like they say...take plenty of pics and document!! thanks
