View Full Version : Ignition Relay Module?
keetes Jun 15th, 09, 4:04 PM Hey Guys,
I'm trying to locate where the ignition relay module is or where it should be for a 1970. I'm installing power windows and according to the Fisher Body electrical schematics there should be a relay module with 3 prongs. My wiring is installed and I have a 3 pin connector that is supposed to be plugged onto this relay. The additional orange wire I believe pokes out through the firewall and connects to the aux tab on my 30amp circuit breaker. I've tried the local Schucks to see if they carry this module but they do not. I'm so close to finishing the p/w conversion despite the fact I can't find this ignition relay module.
Any help or guidance on this topic will be greatly appreciated.

Heres what you need.
It's a little pricey though in my opinion, but maybe some searching will turn up a less expensive option.
keetes Jun 16th, 09, 12:21 AM Lee, thank you for that listing. I found a cheaper alternative at a local Schucks. I used a Ford relay made by Neihoff. The part number is RL32951 which is a 60Amp, internally grounded, p/w, p/d, and p/s setup. It cost me about $40.00, was a 3 prong, and my wiring snapped right into it without problems.
The part I'm missing now is the ignition relay module that appears to mounted up under the dash, according to my wiring diagram for 1970 Chevelle. The wiring harness I have has a brown 3 prong clip that would snap on the relay and it has the one orange wire. The wiring diagram shows this 3 prong relay and calls it out by name, Ign Relay 46 Mod. I've traced the wiring of the schematic back to ensure I wasn't misreading it. I'm sure I'll find one soon enough but it's getting old not being able to roll up the windows.
LRW69 Jun 16th, 09, 3:10 AM Bob, I just checked my Fisher Body diagrams for 69 and 71
I lent my 70 to a friend, and I dont see a ign. relay mod. on either one. You should have all you need to get the windows working.
In the last few years I've done three p/w conversions. A 69,my own,
a 70 vert, and a 71. All the wiring was the same. Each one had a power seat connector in the rear harness, which wasn't in the diagram for the windows.
I can e-mail you the 69 diagram if you think it will help.
The 70 I did stick out to me because I removed the set-up personally, and all there was, was the circuit breaker in the engine compartment, the relay behind the left kick panel, and the main wiring. I'll try and get my 70 manual back and double check. but I know they were the same, and they all work fine.
keetes Jun 16th, 09, 3:51 AM Hey Lee,
I scanned the 3 pages into viewable images last night and highlighted the wires I was tracing out. Maybe you're right and I'm over analyzing this. I'll email these images to you if you like? I circled this ign mod relay in red, maybe that is only needed for station wagons and convertible tops, idk. Still doesn't explain why I have a 3 pin connector that is not connected to anything. Could it be I got a wiring harness that had a lot of power accessories?
LRW69 Jun 16th, 09, 4:03 AM Yes, e-mail it to me and I'll take a look.
LRW69 Jun 16th, 09, 1:08 PM Bob, sent you an e-mail.
