: Just need a few things identified
MudWild680 Jun 13th, 09, 4:12 PM Been tearing out alot of the oem wiring in my 69 here lately.
Well i have come across these 2 boxes and i do not know what they do or what they are for.
Ive already removed them but would just like to know what they were for.

Both of those were found near the drivers front corner of the car.
I will eventually be buying a wiring kit with fuse block from Summit and doing it all over again.

Also, does anyone know of a diagram showing what wire does what coming out of the ignition switch on the steering column?
After tearing out oem wiring i can no longer turn over my 555 using the keyed switch on my steering column.
Its no big deal, i can easily run a push button switch.
Elcoman Jun 13th, 09, 4:14 PM The first one is a horn relay, the second is a voltage regulator.
zeke67 Jun 13th, 09, 11:12 PM Correct. The horn relay serves as a power take off point. The second one is because these cars came with externally regulated alternators. If you buy a will fir wiring kit, it is likely that you can do away with the horn relay (just a guess). Unless you have converted to an internally regulated alternator, you'll need the regulator.
MudWild680 Jun 14th, 09, 12:34 AM I dont run an alternator.
Would the voltage regulator have anything to do with the ignition switch and the solenoid?

Electrical things do have a way about not working after their wiring gets torn out. :D

USA#1 Jun 14th, 09, 9:33 AM it looks like in the pictures that your engine can't turn over as it is not in the car :D
Your engine won't start with the key if you took out all the wiring in the engine compartment
MudWild680 Jun 14th, 09, 2:40 PM Only wires i thought i removed were the ones going to the headlights, all of the regulator wiring, solenoid wiring for the alternator.
All of the wiring running to the solenoid for my starter was removed from in front of the firewall and placed behind the firewall in the car.

Does that include the wring from the horn relay to the ignition switch?
MudWild680 Jun 14th, 09, 6:18 PM I havent snipped any wires off from the fuse block so any wiring that went to that relay is still there just the relay is gone.
There was a positive lead going to the relay that was hot and the motor would not turn over if the wire was hooked up.
I thought i kept it and kept it hooked up to a positive lead but im thinking im missing a wire that should be hooked up to that lead.
Any idea of what this wire could be?
zeke67 Jun 14th, 09, 7:29 PM Look at the wiring schematic in the link Dean posted.
MudWild680 Jun 14th, 09, 8:57 PM Yeah ive been studying it.
I'll have to mess with it sometime.
MudWild680 Jun 15th, 09, 1:20 PM problem solved.
had my women get in the car and had her hold the ignition switch to the start postition.
I broke out my test light and only found 2 hot wires that were constantly hot off the ignition.
I soon gave up and just run a push button switch for my starter.
Had a pretty nasty problem couple weeks ago.
And it was pretty consistent.
Would go to start the car by the key and the starter/solenoid would kick on and off.
Chewed up a couple teeth on my flywheel.
Now with this new button i installed, no problems with the starter/solenoid kicking on and off.
So i blame the wiring and or the ignition switch on my column.
Still have to keep the key in the car so the steering wheel will stay unlocked.
