Has anyone replaced their full dash pad for a 71-72 Chevelle with the repop's and if so how are they and who has the best quality and fit. Looking for the stereo dual speaker holes??? Thanks in advance for your help!

I bought a interior kit and the dash pad was a poor fit so I dyed my original one. Not sure who was the manufacturer as I sent it back for a refund. If your factory one is decent I would dye it.

Eric -

Do a search. Your question has been asked many, many times before. The bottom line has always been: The reproduction pads don't fit right and look like hell. Use an original pad no matter what.

Like I said, your question has been asked many times before and most recently withing the last month or two. Someone wrote that the Parts Place (on e-bay and located in Elburn, Illinois) was advertising that they were reproducing 70-72 dash pads that were a perfect match/fit - guaranteed. When he asked them to send him one to test fit and if it lived up to their claims he would not only keep/buy it, he would announce to the world here on Team Chevelle that there finally was a reproduction dash pad worth buying. They turned him down.

So, let your concience be your guide. Or better yet, those who spent their hard-earned money on a repro dash pad and regretted it.

There all junk although i did get one from a place here locally and it fit better than most I did have to hack it up a bit to get it to look right.
Found one on EBAY for $399.99 original GM from a 71 Monte Carlo and it was mint. Worth every bit of the money.

I heard that a company in GA called Just Dashes will recover your original but it is not cheap.

Just Dashes is like $800 or so. Good for a show car but you can buy a MINT old one for less, if you could find it.

Also - you can buy El Camino or Monte Carlo dashes (I think) from 71-72 that would match; more of them out there on sale. Mainly - you can find one that's NOT in your color (sandy brown or green) and dye it to match what you need. This "refreshes" it to look like new too...

But there must be more than one repro on the market... Can anyone honestly say they ALL fit poorly?

I know mine doesn't fit too good, but it also doesn't have provisions to "snap" in the front clips... I'll need to drill a hole and screw them... And some repros come with the clips...

I'd take and dye a nice original, IF I could find one at a decent price (including shipping)... I have seen many that were suposedly "excellent', only to have some small cracks starting. I'd hate to buy/ship one of those...

I'm new here and have picked up so much... Being new I just assumed that I could figure out how to repair my '70 malibu dash pad. I made a half-hearted attempt some time ago by buying a micky-mouse vinal repair kit. Disaster.

Heres my take and solution.: That surface is comprised of three layers and you can't just squzze in some goo and expect a smooth surface. The inside of the crack on a micro level looks like the grand canyon stratus layers.

Heres what worked for me: Repeated applications of super glue seems to bind both the upper vinal and foam . The hardened stuff will rise above the surface. Plane that excess off with a very sharp blade. There will be slight depressions..............repeat the process. After it's smooth paint, dye ...
