Does anyone know if there should be a rear spring cushion on top of the axle housing for a '70 convert? We pulled the axle housing to get some differential work done and the left side has a cushion, butt the right one doesn't.

I looked in the GM assembly manual and it doesn't show one being on there - only insulators on the top.

Any ideas about why the prior owner might have done it, if they're not needed? Any operating advantages/disadvantages you can think of?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Andy,
You only need them at the top.

My guess with your case is the previous owner wanted to "level" out the car maybe??

You can get new ones from GM still.

Thanks, Joe That was my best guess too - kind of a spacer. I'm glad to hear someone else thinks so, too.

I appreciate the confirmation!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif Hope I can return the favor someday.
