I'm installing a AAW Highway 22 kit in my 71 Chevelle and I have a cs130 alternator. Can I run the big red wire from the alternator directly to the junction on the firewall and then to the pigtail on the positive battery cable. I also have a brown wire that I installed a diode in running from the alternator to the ignition switch.
Just checking if this would be correct or not
Thanks

Yes, the alternator output should connect to the junction block or the horn relay, using 10g or bigger wire. Connect to the battery through a fusible link to protect the battery from rapid charging.
Why run a separate wire to the ignition switch? The horn relay provides power to the fuse box and the switch.

I'm running a seperate wire to the ignition switch because they have that in the instructions. Brown wire through a diode to prevent power coming back to the ignition. Is this not right. Does anyone have a diagram or picture of how it's supposed to be wired up?
Thanks

Corey we have the same harness in our El Camino. Wire comes off the alternator to the mega fuse, power from the battery also goes to the mega fuse. Then the power goes into the car to the fuse panel. We do not have a diode going to the ignition switch car was started a few times with no issue. The paper work for the the kit shows the diode at the alternator.

Thanks monte, so the alternator and battery wire go to the mega fuse. Are they both on the same side or opposite side of the fuse? Where do you have your mega fuse mounted?
Thanks

I just went and double check the power for the alternator is hooked to the same side as the hot for our starter. Maybe this picture will helphttp://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj278/monte70car/el%20camino/elkie002.jpg

Yes, that does help. So battery thick cable goes to starter. Battery secondary and alternator red go to mega fuse on the same stud, other side of mega fuse the wire goes to the dash? Do I have it right?
Thanks much for the help
