: 69 Window cranks

Have bought 3 sets of window crank handles from 3 different vendors. I have new Legendary interior, including door panels. The cranks' towers aren't long enough to reach the splines on the door into the splines in the crank. The only ones that reach are the stock ones and the handles have went from clear to yellow. Gotta replace them. Tried grinding off the top or end of the tower on the handle, but can't take enough off to come close to it reaching without getting into clip slots.

Anybody else been there?

Thanks,
Randy

Randy...

If you want to use the original cranks get a heat gun and heat up the rubber handles. When they are warm enough you can get them off and change them...

Mine are originals and they look new...

It must have been five years ago that I bought those cranks that don't fit. Beware, they just keep on selling them.

Had the same problem with reproduction ones. Ended up checking with my local GM parts guy and he was still able to find me brand new GM handles just a couple months ago. The fit perfect!

It's no wonder repro parts always get a bad rap. Absolutely no excuse for that on such a simple part

I also bought three sets for my 'vert....... NONE fitted correctly. I finally found ones for the fronts that would 'stay on' but they flopped around in use. Seems it would be VERY simple to copy a cast part............. well unless you DON'T CARE and (people buy them anyway)

Wow. I was thinking of changing mine because of the yellow and some pits. Now I'm glad I didn't do it yet. I'll try my local GM dealer. Thanks for saving me the hassle.
