I have a 71 chevelle and im going to install the hotckis rear sway bar which it comes with everything i need to install it but i been seeing a sway bar installation kit that have shims in the kit are these shims a must to install are just a only if you need type deal.

It does not matter if the bar is centered. the shims are to keep from putting a preload on the bar which causes binding on the rear bushings.
