What type steering column (standard non-adjustable or tilt)? Also just to make sure our terminology is correct. The ignition switch on a 1970 Chevelle is mounted on top of the steering column jacket down under the dash. The ignition LOCK CYLINDER is the part where you insert your key and is located in the column head.

There are complete instructions on replacing both parts at www.corvettefaq.com

Click on Jim Shea's Steering Papers
Click on A and F-Car Steering Papers
Scroll down to the Std Strg Column 69-76 Disassembly & Repair Papers and Pics section
or
Scroll down to the Tilt Steering Column 69-76 Disassembly & Repair Papers and Pics section
(Depending upon your type of column.)

You will only need Paper #1 and Pic #1 if you are replacing just the lock cylinder.

If you are replacing the switch you will need to drop the steering column and you will require Papers #1 and #2 and Pics #1 & #2.
