Hey guys, I got a new gas tank sender from NPD, much to my surprise, the sending part is open?! so that gas will actually get inside where the windings of the rheostat are...is this right? Or a production snafu? See the pic below; the hole next to the sock tube in sending "box" is straight open...what happens if a piece of rust floats inside there?!

I posted those pics you requested a few weeks ago http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2346189&postcount=2
Granted the pics are from a '66, but is OEM. It's not "sealed" per se, but doesn't have the "window" like your replacement.
I'd suspect if a piece of crud got in there it'd give you a temporary false reading until it was washed away by sloshing. You'd probably not even know it was happening.
