Hey guys,
Any tricks on reducing front disc caliper drag? Someone mentioned to me to lube up the disc pistons but aren't they lubed with brake fluid already??

Maybe he meant the slide surfaces on the caliper that contact the mounting bracket... These should be lubed somewhat so the caliper will slide freely.

hi, are the discs original mounted on the car? i changed from drum to discs and had a bad "drag" the problem was the brackets that holds the calipers were not adjusted to the disc so the outer pad was pushing towards the disc. a little bending and hammering took care of that and i think the lenght of the pushrod from the pedal to the master cylinder also has something to do with it /mike

Hey Mike,
Yes these are the original discs. I will release the brake line pressure and see how the tire spins. I will look into the brakets too.

If most of the parts are stock you may be getting some unreleived pressure from the hoses. Bad hoses will hold pressure.

Take the metel slider out of caliper . What I do is take threaded rod wrap tape around put slider on with 2 lock nuts install in drill press pollish useing file and emory paper. The slider will then fit lossely, fall right through actulley then lube with calliper grease. This works

the calipers will always drag a little bit, they just aren't designed to retract away from the rotor.
back when i was in auto shop, my instructor told us to set up a little bit of a wobble when machining brake rotors- like a thousandth or two- so that it will push the pads away from the rotor when pressure is released, but not have to travel too far before making contact or causing a pulsation in the pedal.
i don't know if that's still done, but that's the way i was taught back in 1991.
