Howdy

I have a complete ignition switch I've been using taped under the dash to start the car while I've been locating the missing dash pieces. Now, I have a complete dash insert, but can't seem to get the ignition though the hole with the key core installed.

Is there a trick to removing the key core from the switch so i can install it. There are two small holes in the face of the core right next to the key slot, and a slot underneath in the threaded area, but i don't seem to be able to get the core free pushing in these areas.

I also have a spare dash I purchased for gauges that has a switch in it with the round locking ring. It's threaded on tight to the ignition - is there a trick to getting it off without damaging the finish on the ring?

thanks!!

You need the key. Insert the key and turn to accy., then push a paperclip or small drill bit in the hole and turn the cylinder past accessory (you'll feel spring loaded resistance from the lock pin).... it should pop out. The cylinder is installed after the switch is in the dash.

The "locking ring/hold-down nut".... there is a special 3-pronged tool to remove them. I made one for my use with a piece of tubing. I don't remember the diameter, but it was big enough to sit about 1/2 way down the "cone" of the nut. I marked it and then filed away everything but the 3 prongs. Once you've got the tool, the nut really isn't on there very tight...

Thanks - great help! :)

Got my clip here, and like the tool idea - perhaps I can make one from some pvc hose I have and make it non-marring.
