: Difference between bucket power seat and regular bucket seat tracks?

I picked up a deal on an original Chevelle drivers side power seat setup for my 71 Chevelle. Before I tear into it is there a difference between the floor brackets between a regular bucket seat car and one with the power bucket seat option? If so, is it something I can modify or will I need a completely different bracket?

Same brackets, spaced about an inch wider apart before you weld them down to the floor.
Look here:
www.buickperformance.com
Enter & scroll thru until you find the article on consoles & bucket seat mounting.
Before you install them, clean all the old dry grease & replace with new. Common complaint is that they are very slow. Common problem is usually the dried up old grease.

The power bucket seat brackets are shorter then non power bucket seats. The outboard bracket is also different in design.
I'm looking for the pictures I have, if I find them, I'll e-mail them to you.

You'd think that Ground Up, Ausleys, etc.. would offer them. I found a guy on Ebay that sells power bucket seat mounting brackets. Does this look correct to you guys? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/64-72-POWER-BUCKET-SEAT-BRACKETS-TRACKS-DRIVER_W0QQitemZ270364722130QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMot ors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3ef2fe43d 2&_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116

I added a 69 Gran Prix P/S base to my 67 and used a bracket/stand from Year One that welds to the floor to support the left rear track. It stands roughly 2-1/2 to 3" off the floor for the left rear mount. The rest of my mounts were good except the right rear was about 2" short and I made a bracket to handle that. I haven't seen these brackets that Robert posted above but the left mount "looks" be to short for my application. Hard to say from the picture and I don't think the guy would go to the trouble of offering those if they didnt fit. Anybody used those e-bay mounts?

Something a little off topic.

If you have trouble with the seat mechanism working there is a guy out in Vegas (near Vegas) that rebuilds seat track power units. He just did one for me and the results are terrific. Motor rebuilds, transmission rebuilds whatever it takes he knows how to rebuild all the guts of the power seat mechanism. Parts are the issue, the actual rebuild is relatively simple but this guy knows just about all there is to know. He can even redo the switch internals.

If you need to get some work done (he might sell some parts separately but he prefers to work on your parts, you send them to him and he fixes the problem) look at "theseatrackguy" on e-bay. He does not advertise anywhere all his work is word of mouth. For folks who read this he DOES NOT usually have seat track units for sale. If you have a unit in need of repair this guy is "DaMan"

Update for those who are thinking about putting a power seat in your Chevelle. The power seat bracket is completely different than the regular bucket seat bracket. It's several inches shorter and really can't be modified correctly from the regular bucket seat bracket. Hopefully Ground Up, Ausley's and some of the others will start offering this now that they are being reproduced. I wonder why GM didn't just use the regular bucket seat track so that the floor brackets would all be the same??

The brackets are a simple fix. A little creative spacer work on the two rear bracket mounts and it can be done with a drill and no welding. If you want details contact me.

The fronts "bolt right on" to the front two factory floor mounted lugs used by a non poer bucket seat.

The rears are as Roberty says "way off" The long and short of my install was that I made some aluminum "risers" that go between the floor and the rear brackets. Under the floor some supports similar to what you sometimes see under seat belt anchor bolts s are used. The supports are held in position by three bolts. Two go thru the floor and the support and a third goes thru the seat track, the floor and the under floor brace.

A benefit of these "risers" I made is that they can be tailored to put some recline in the seat back. Todays 3 way seats let ya change the angle of the seat back. The old 70's front seats for our cars (even with the power option) don't allow that flexibility. If you make the risers short enough you can have a fairly steep angle of recline in the seat back and yet you can lift that end of the seat up in an arc if a higher / straighter seat back is desired.

In conclusion...the shorter rear seat tracks on the factory power buckets can in fact be a benefit and overcoming the issues with the floor mounting can be overcome easily.

If ya gotta have as delivered factory perfection this is not gonna be your cup of tea. On the other hand for a driver weekend show car well......it worked for me.

The brackets pictured above are the correct shape for the power bucket seat.

Tom, send "theseattrackguy" a message on ebay and he'll get right back to you. He restored my power seat track a couple of months ago. It was a nice job. His name is Dale.
