I had the fastest time in the autocross at Chevellabration tonight of the participants. The DSE test car and driver was the only one faster, but I don't think that counts. I was even driving with drag radials on the back and my first time ever going through the cones. It was a blast to run and watch the others drive their cars like they stole them. I'll try to get some pics up after we get back home on Sunday. 715 mile drive back home. The car has been running great and we got 21mpg on the ride up. We'll see if there are any awards tomorrow. Now it's time for some different tires, a rear sway bar and a lot more driving practice. Felt good to be representing for the pro-touring guys.

The car was understeering pretty bad at times. So I'll need to figure that out.

Good for you Mike! Ive checked out your build thread more than a couple times over on LS1tech. Nice package youve got put together there. Congrats on the fast lap time up at CB. Anyone get any video of it?

You looked good out there. I told my wife before anyone ran that yours would probably be one of the fastest cars there. She asked me why I thought that. I told her that you could see he put his money in the suspension and not the bodywork. ; ^) She told me I must have seen something she didn't after you ran that fastest lap - LOL. Good to see a fellow Team Chevelle member do so good. I was the one who talked to you Saturday and asked which part of Florida you were from and asked about the suspension and motor. I didn't realize at the time that you were a forum member. Good meeting you.

Mike,
Awesome job! I have to admit that running and watching the autocross was the most fun we've had a CB.

Congrats Mike. It was great to meet you and hang out. I had a blast doing the autocross too. How did the times stack up? Was it DSE 64 19.40 You 20.80 and me 21.04. Does that sound right? I had a heck of a time beating my car up. I think the only one who had had more fun than me was Crazy Dave with that 582cid 69 Chevelle. Did anyone host any videos yet? I am waiting on Mikey to get home so they can post up the one of me they took. Later

Thanks all. Dave - Bowtie70ss almost took me out with his mostly stock suspension and 14" wheel/tire combo. With that big block he can torque steer the elcamino like a mad man. I am definitely going to get to work on getting the suspension tuned and working on some driving practice. Hopefully DSE will come along and host the event again next year. My brother took some pics and I am getting them up now. I remember someone saying they got some video so we'll have to track that down. We had a blast on the trip and it was a great time meeting so many cool people.

What, no credit for my insightfull advice? I'll go on record as saying my first run was better than your first run. :D

Here's some videos of my run:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2Vayde42Yc

The big block and stock front discs made for some understeer resulting in a lot of purshing into and past the corners. So I had to pretty much toss the back end around to get my barge to corner. The very end of the coarse was a sharp turn to keep speed down. The only way to finish well was basically to drift through it. I did just that at the end. On the 2nd video, Listen for me to ask "Did I finish". I slid about 4 feet past the beam

Can't wait to see some high resolution pictures that Scott took.

Here I am in race mode: ;)

Mike, it was a pleasure to meet you. I really dig the hard work and engineering that went into that 71. Can't wait to see her with some "skin" on it!

Yeah, bowtie slinging his hard rollin' Elky into the corners, time after time, was too cool!

I could upload the video of my door flying open, but I'll just say that I can't due to technical difficulty. ;) It is pretty funny to watch though.
