I need to know how to remove the back of my bucket seats so I can repaint them. Any tips on how to get past the chrome release button would be appreciated. It is a a 1969 model.

I just seen a post on here yesterday and a guy said the center button just snaps in. After you pop that out there is a screw under it, Then just slide the cover up and off.

True, but it's not as easy as it sounds. There are two spring clips holding the release button assembly onto the seat back. They are either on the top & bottom or else on the sides....and darned if I can remember which it is  Anyway you will need to use something like two putty knives or two table knives and push inward to release the spring clips, and kind of twist or pry outward a little at the same time. Once you get the button assembly out and see these things it will look painfully simple, but when you can't see them it can be very frustrating.

Once you are ready to reinstall the button assemblies, be careful - there is a top and bottom side to them, although it doesn't really look like it. There is a very slight curvature to the back side that fiollows the slight curvature of the seat back. If you put one in upside down you will notice the difference  Bet you can guess how I know about that  :clonk:

Do as Bill suggests, use a narrow putty knife and remove by compressing them both at once, else they will break. They are on the sides BTW
