I went to the shop today that's painting my Chevelle and there was a new arrival there. In the corner sat a 67 or 68 Mustang that was in very bad shape, the distributor was up on the dash and the interior was filled with allot of it's parts. I said to the owner " Where did that ratty looking Mustang come from? " He said that the owner had went to one of those auctions that storage places have, ( you know you bid on units not knowing what's in them) He won the bid, opened the door and there was the Mustang. Here is the kicker it's a real Shelby!

My BS meter is pegged right now.

you'd be surprised how often this happens. when i was a kid, my father owned a small storage yard, along with a construction company. a guy didn't pay his storage, we open the door and there sat a 54 vette, unfortunately, this was when you couldn't give a 54 vette away, we traded it for a drag boat. i was screwed out of a shelby (mustang) when i was 15. it was sitting in a lady's garage, she lost her son in viet nam, a friend and i were supposed to buy it together, but his father beat me to it.

the true ones are far and few between, but they do happen from time to time. i personally know a guy with a back yard of shelby's, and no $ to do anything with them, if anything ever happens to him, his brother will be in shelby heaven....

John no there isn't any pictures. I couldn't stop thinking about the car and the story, I just wanted to tell it to people that would be as shocked as I was. I'll try to get a picture. Now as far as Mr. fast67vellen2o, I don't "BS". I have no reason to "BS", and I wouldn't "BS" any ACES members. ACES members have helped me so many times, I consider it an insult that you think that I'm making this up. But if that's what you think..... You know what I really don't care what you think.

The internet is full of these stories. Check every message board on the internet, including this one, especially in this forum, and you can find at least one post a month of a BS "incredible find story". In this day, no-one stops paying storage on a vintage Shelby Mustang. He has been here 2 more years than me as a member and that makes a difference? I think someone was just messing with you when it came to the story of this supposed Shelby Mustang.

This is a cool story, and this thread is quite similar to the other threads lke this at TC. Somoene, at least one person calls BS, and most of the time the stories are true.

A buddy of mine from work bought some land with a good sized wood lot. In the middle of it was an old house foundation and shed. Inside the shed is where he found the '49 Ford pickup he is almost done resto-modding. It's pretty neat, all flat black, 9" 3:73 rear, TH350 and a 313 Chevy (307 + .040"). Now that is definitely not a Shelby, but cool nonetheless.

The lady I bought my samurai sword from got it in one of those storage shed auctions. I paid 2 dollars for it, got it home, did some research turns out it was made between 1640-1670. If it was signed it would have been a 10000 dollar sword restored. unfortuntaly it didnt have a makers sig so it would have only been worth 5-6K restored.
So I did what I usually do with junk I have no need for. I traded it for a nice AR-15!
A lady I used to work with, her and her husband use to go to alot of locker auctions. They hit one that was nothing but harley parts, but they passed on it because they werent exactly sure what all the stuff was worth. But they do buy a bunch of junk to yard sale. jim

This almost happened to me but the other way around. My brother was storing a 70 1/2z because we were using my garage for other things. Anyways, we put it in a storage place and he was responsible for the payment. I went by the storage one day to get something out of the car and the code to the gate wouldn't work. I inquired at the office and there had been no payments made in 2 months and they were getting ready to put the unit in auction. I fixed that real quick. Moral of this story is this very much can happen and does. When they do the auctions around here the doors are open and you can see what is in them. Kool story by the way.

Had a buddy call me in March...said he was at a guys house looking at another car...seems man was about to get cut back on his hours at work and was trying to unload projects fast to gather up money....anyhow he had an 81 vette with no motor or trans...buddy ask how much, guy says $200.00....buddy calls me up, says man is begging him to buy vette, ask me to come look at it..fairly complete, even mirror t-tops, told my buddy these years weren't most popular, but a 350 came out of it and could be put on the road fairly cheap...he thought about it, then backed out, called me and said help the guy out...i call him up, say ,do you still have the vette for $200, he said mister i'll sell it to you for $150 if you buy it this weekend...i figure no title but i can strip it and sell parts......i get there with trailer, man does have title for it. Brought it home, but can't fit in it. I'm 6.5 and vettes must be for 6.0 or shorter..am looking at the chrome across top of windsheild...still don't know what to do with it, for now in garage....so there are bargains out there, just wish this had been a 67 Chevelle.....oh well:sad:

Well I really belive thats what you were told at the bodyshop no bs from you but I have to agree with fast velle I find it hard to belive someone would stop paying storage on a shelby. With Barrett Jackson reruns on every week anybody with a shelby has at least a clue what its worth! Furthermore I think every soldier that died in veitnam had a brand new musclecar in their garagethat their family sold for nothing!!!Im personally sick of that worn out story!! If the story is true then thats great,I have a 70 conv that was a one owner "barn find" and trust me I didnt steal steal it (not even close!)I have a 2 owner 69 camaro didnt steal it either.I guess I can sum it up like this, EVERY 12 bolt rear for sale in the world is a 3:73 or 4:11 posi!!! how many are when the cover is pulled dont belive every bench racing story you hear! entertaining yes, true who really knows.

It could have been the owner of the storage shed up and dies? last thing on the family's to do list is try and track down a old car.
Heck back in the early 80's we use to print some stuff for HP books when they were on Prince road in tucson. We were in a print shop which the back doors faced a storage locker on oracle road. One day we were working and I looked out the door. and theres Bill Fisher pulling out his unrestored AC cobra (actually a small block car!) I went and checked it out and behind it was the HPbooks bonneville monza. A while later, the boss was giving Bills son the dog and pony show of our shop, I asked him about the cobra, I guess his son wasnt much of a car guy, cause he had to ask what I was talking about. I told him about the 2 seat convertable. Then he was like oh, that just my dads old car. He really wasnt into cars at all. Jim

Great deals like this happen more often than we hear of. Being a Southerner, I don't like to tell folks how much I pay for something but LOVE to tell them how little I paid!!!
I purchased my 64 SS with 84,000 original miles from the original owners grandson (he inherited it) for $1,350.00 and put it in service as my daily driver. It is in better shape than most 10 year old cars I see on the road. 12,000 miles later and I have only changed the oil and tuned it up.
My 75 Firebird Esprit was purchased from its original owner after his daughters attended college in it. Desirable Red with white vinyl top and white deluxe interior. The 8 track is still in the dash. With 110,000 miles I got it for $2,300.
How about my 73 Mach1 Mustang with 104,000 miles for $1,600.
All three cars drive great and are all from presentable (no accident damage with original paint) to excellent condition.
I "stumbled" into each and every car. Based on my experience, I'm not too quick to call a story BS.

This one actually happened to me, I was looking for a engine hoist and found one in the paper. lady had the ad as engine crane and stand 100 bucks. Turns out she was right down the street. Me and my wife goes and pick it up. after the usual chitchat, (yes I do talk too much) turns out her hubby moved back east and as soon as everything was sold, she was following. Well on this trailer sits a 68 or 67 fastback mustang. I asked where all the trim etc was, Turns out it was all in the car because her hubby just painted it, not a bad job too. Sitting next to it is what I think is a big block C6 tranny which she says came out of it. I asked what they were selling it for and I was told for $1000 I could take the car and trailer!
Hind sight being what it is today, I should have bought it, but Im not a ford guy, I didnt need a trailer, At the time the only hotrod I had was my 71 camaro and wasnt into wheeling and dealing parts, My daughter was playing club ball $$$$$$$ so I just past on it. The lady did say she didnt have a title, but I didnt bother pursuing it, I thought my kid would like it as her first car, but she didnt want a fastback, until she saw one going down the road. By then it was sold. jim

It's not about the truth or fiction of the story. It's about acting like an adult and having some courtesy towards others. This site doesn't need your kind of behavior. If you think something is BS either use less inflammatory words or go away. Time to grow up!
