I've re-assembled the frame, suspension, and brake set up on my '64 SS. I'm at an indecision on which shocks would be best to use in my application and would greatly appreciate any input and experiences.
I have Global West fr.upper arms, taller spindle disc set up, GW fr & Rr springs, 1 1/8 Fr sway bar, no Rr sway bar (GW doesn't recommend), stock Rr upper and lower cont. arms (for now). Driving mainly street, some trips up Hwy 38 to Big Bear on twists and turns, occasional road coarse, want a good feel around town yet ability to firm up in the cornering.
Two shocks I'm considering are Edelbrock AIS ('bout $70ea) or adjustable Koni's offered by GW ('bout $100ea). $$ is not the factor, it's the ride/handling. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I have edelbrock IAS all around and all ic an say is i love them. They take bumps SO nice basicly you go down then back up and that is all. And when you go over a hill and drops real quick the car just drops to ride height and doesn't bounce back up. I love them and feelt hey were well worth the money.

Hey thanks for the info. I spoke to some other people as well and they agreed edelbrock IAS (not AIS as I posted earlier) are a very nice shock. I've got an order in and should get them next monday. I won't get to try 'em yet as I still need to put the eng/trans back in and so forth, but I am getting anxious to drive it!

Not saying the Edelbrock products are bad, as Ive never used them... But since you said money isnt a factor, you've put handling suspension on your car and expressed an interest in twistys and road course.... IMO I'd skip over the Edelbrock shocks and go straight for Koni/Bilsteins/Tokikos(sp?) Basically, high quality handling shocks.

I have KYBs in my 66. Very nice ride quality and handling.

I appreciate the input guys. Turns out the edelbrocks are on back order (go figure), so I'm
still considering the other options. I have also heard good things about Koni's/Bilsteins, and I have Tokiko's on my '74 260Z and they handle nicely. Koni's were my first choice originally, but keep the opinions coming as I've still got time to decide.
Bye the way Russ, nice '65! The headers you have, do they have any clearance problems with steering shaft or control arm? I'm shopping for those also.

Steering shaft is fine, has a slight problem with the passenger side control arm, but I don't know if its just because the car sits so low. They're headman shorties... I smashed up two sets of full lengths (1st set at a car wash and second set on a bot dot in the road) before I finally bit the bullet, got shorty headers and rerouted the exhaust.
Oh ya... thanks for the compliment on the car smile.gif
