: Chevelle convertible tour?
danmay21 Jun 3rd, 09, 1:58 PM NW folks,
Does anyone around here have a convertible and want to take me for a ride. I have become completely addicted to Chevelle Convertibles. The strange thing, I've never even been inside a regular Chevelle, much less a conve. I would love to just check out the car, lay my hands on it for a second, see it for real. If there's nobody around with a rag top, I'm sure there's someone out there that has a nice hard top and wants to scare me a little. I have a very busy summer ahead, but would love to make some time to see a car, meet some NW owners.
Thanks guys,
Dan

kettbo Jun 3rd, 09, 2:16 PM Dan,
Paul "65lkey" has a 67 Ragtop in the stable....mom's car.
If you just want to get the pee scared outa you....Buick Special Greg, FRYNTYR, Kevin, and a few others in the greater Seattle area will probably indulge you. I'm rumored to have a 68 Vette with 427 and t-tops. Would this be close enough to a convertible? I'm south of Tacoma however.

Yah no offense but this sounds like you would want our street address where we keep the chevelle along with our work hours as well.

66SSFan Jun 3rd, 09, 8:16 PM I can see where your coming from with the post above and wanting to ride in and check out a convertable before buying. I cannot think of any here with a vert, but my suggestion would be to check out the local classic dealers and see what it takes to test drive a couple. There is Kompact kar korner in Lynnwood, and Austin's pro max in Tacoma. I know there is one up north by Mt. Vernon too I just don't know the name.
When you do find a car you like, have it checked out well. We live in a climate not very friendly to convertables and a real good driver/project car is going to be expensive. It's worth the extra money for a car that needs no major repairs if you don't have the shop, tools and time to do it yourself.

OutCast Jun 3rd, 09, 8:30 PM Well, it ain't a 'vert, but it is a Chevelle for the most part.
I really get a kick out of taking people for their first ride.
You're welcome to go for a ride, but I'd have to meet you somewhere low profile. My black-ops work with the government is very clandestine, so it wouldn't be a good thing if people knew you know me. ;)
danmay21 Jun 4th, 09, 7:25 PM Thanks a lot for the replies guys, and no, I'm not trying to find soneone's Chevelle to steal. But, if anyone is giving one away..... Thanks George for throwing my original post in there.
I'm not specific to rag tops, just want to see what a Chevelle looks like in person. I was only stung by the buy a few months ago, so I haven't had a chance to hit a show yet.
I'm in school getting my masters right now, plus working full time, and my finals are coming up next week. I'm also headed to Euro in two weeks for vacation (I know, rough life). This limits when I can meet up to get the bejesus scared out of me.
Perhaps if someone would be willing to meet up next Sunday, the 14th, that would be great for me. I am free most of the day and could meet pretty much anywhere. I am willing to go stealth too...if needed!
Thanks again,
Dan
66 Buick Special Jun 5th, 09, 10:38 AM Dan,
Some of us will be at Bremerton Raceway Saturday morning 6/6.
Plus we have the upcoming Dyno and Burnout Day on the 20th.
If you can't make one of those I could certainly meet you one evening with my Buick. The Special is similar to the Chevelles, and although it's not finished, she's still a pretty fun ride.
If you'd rather wait and ride in an actual Chevelle I certainly understand.
Let me know.
Juhosaphat Jun 5th, 09, 11:18 AM Maybe if TW start's cooperating, I can throw the other seat in her and rattle can the other side. She's not much to look at, and not the fastest, but if you've never ridden in a Chevelle, she'd be plenty fast enough to thoroughly scare the piss out of you on the street :D
I'd take the offer to ride in Greg's Buick though. I mean, it can't scare you too much, it is only a small block right? :p I've ridden in it and it's a very fun ride :D:yes:
danmay21 Jun 5th, 09, 12:15 PM Sadly I won't be able to meet you guys at the raceway. I have out of town guests and we're planning on going out on the lake (weather permitting). I am more than happy to ride in pretty much anything at this point. I'm sitting here on my computer, scratching the side of my face like a junkie, needing a speed fix.
My best buddy has a Porsche Cayman, it's a beautifuly fast car, but I prefer the sound of the big engines. I really just want to get a feel for the engines, the stance, etc. I just have no idea what they are like, I'm such a noob.
Thanks again for all the help guys, it's great to have a community to pull us new kids along!

Try waiting almost 9 years to drive your own car.....

Scratching the side of your face like a junkie! Now THAT's a sign of a sicko. You'll fit right in here!
Porsche Cayman? OMG, you really need to experience some CHEVY power.

Well Damn Sam, you just had to take it apart and paint every nut and bolt Cobalt Blue. Then you upgraded everything twice and moved everything else around 2-3 times so the upgrades would fit.
danmay21 Jun 5th, 09, 1:46 PM Just looked through all your pictures Mike, impressive work. I have never built anything one could actually drive (the above mentioned Acura is somewhat of an exception). I think the most enjoyment will just be building a lego set for adults in my garage. I'm sure once I start building it I won't be able to wait to take it out of the road, but it just sounds like so much fun to build something.
Once we get into the winter months I'm sure that there will be plenty of you guys tinkering away in your garage. If there's anyone out there that would like some help, or just a fly on the wall, that'd be great, too. I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I actually start on a car of my own. I'm pretty handy, but don't have the drive train skills that I really need to make a quality car.
Thanks again guys, you make this dream possible!!!
Dan
Mr. Monza Jun 5th, 09, 2:07 PM Dan, you will find the nicest, helpfull folks on this site (not just NW), and we most likely have just as much enjoyment in tearing apart/rebuilding our rides as driving/flying them!!!
(well I know I do) Save yer money, get a runner that you can work on between the good/dry days that we sometimes get around here.
Juhosaphat Jun 5th, 09, 7:50 PM Once you do get a project, I'm always willing to help whenever I've got time  What part of Seattle are you in?
cobaltchev67 Jun 6th, 09, 1:36 AM Settle down George(sarcastic), I've not done that many things twice or moved them around a lot, only when needed....although I'll admit I do paint a lot of stuff(just clear coated my window tracks/channels so they won't rust after sand blasting:D).
Dan, thanks for the compliment....it has taken tons of effort to get this far, and lots of learning along the way. I certainly feel your wants to get in a car and go....part of my comment was to sort of say 'slow down', as it can be a hazard sometimes doing before learning or asking. If you need someone to help you go look at a car with near the south end of the sound, I'm available. Oh yeah, I'm surprised you looked at all 18 pages!!!
If you want to learn some stuff, come on down....there will be a SBC engine build in this neck of the woods in the next few months, blower style:yes:. I'll also be installing windows in my car soon, that'll be an experience.....I remember taking them out, and that wasn't real easy either.
One comment about building stuff, you will have ups and downs. Not everything fits perfect the first time....or fits at all sometimes. Walking away is sometimes the best thing you can do as it gives you time to settle down and think before doing something drastic or breaking something. Think hard about how much of a project you want to get into....
