: Flowmaster Exhaust Question
modracer Jun 2nd, 09, 2:31 PM I have an opportunity to purchase a complete Flowmaster exhaust system for my 1969 Chevelle Malibu from a private party, It is a Flowmaster American Thunder Dual Exhaust Kit, it has all the pieces and hangers, the mufflers are Super 40 Series Model # 952548 2 1/2" O/O. He wants $275.00 for it complete. I do have headers on my car and would like to get more of a throaty sound. Can any body tell me what the sound would be like and if it is worth what he is asking for it. Thanx Jerry
66 BRONZE Jun 2nd, 09, 2:33 PM IMHO I would jump on that deal.
136679ss Jun 2nd, 09, 2:46 PM Great fricken deal, they retail for over 400 with everything. I installed mine in less than an hour complete. Best out of the box system for the money IMO fits and looks GREAT!!! I think I made 4 cuts, two at the collector and shortened the rear for factory style chromed steel tips. Sounds absolutely BadA$$!!
madlag Jun 2nd, 09, 2:49 PM what size pipes? 3 inch?

VinceS427bb Jun 2nd, 09, 3:46 PM what are you waiting for,
Flowmaster rules, Dynomax drools......... :)
modracer Jun 2nd, 09, 3:48 PM It is a 2 1/2" Exhaust system, I called flowmaster and he told me that he would not recomend putting it on a 350 unless it was at least 300 HP, As it would hurt the performance of a lesser Horsepower motor. He said that I could use the mufflers and go with a 2" exhaust system. The part# on the kit is 17119. Thanx Jerry

What size engine do you have? I don't want to waste money if it is not going to work out. Thanx Jerry
Stikman33 Jun 2nd, 09, 4:17 PM I used a 2 1/4 system on my 327, but it was a hot little motor. I wouldn't be too worried about going with a 2.5" system on a 350.

madlag Jun 2nd, 09, 5:46 PM Agreed. Go for it. Every single 350 I've had all used 2 1/2 inch pipes. from 250 -360HP.

Jerry, I have the same exhaust kit on a GM crate 350 in my father's car and my Bigblock 69 vert 2 1/2 header back is not going to hurt the lower end if your using an appropriate size primary header tube.
