: Anyone else heading for HotRod PowerTour 2009?
DET17 Jun 1st, 09, 10:33 AM Not trying to steal any TC thunder here, but this is a HUGE event. I understand last year more than 2000 folks long hauled the entire distance. For the record, the PT begins in Madison WI on June 6 and ends in Bristol TN on June 13.
I'll be cruising my 70 Malibu, freshly restificated with pro-touring suspension, brakes, wheels and rubber. Attached a picture of the "nearly completed" car....grinding out the last details this week.

Drop a line here if your are "touring" with the HotRod folks and I'll look for you at one of the city stops.
Duane

ss1970chev454 Jun 1st, 09, 11:07 AM nice!
looks like my car did in 85, even has the same rust below the marker light.
DET17 Jun 1st, 09, 12:35 PM She's a survivor car. I've owned since 84, and that is 39 year old GM lacquer. Front fenders must go in the future when the repaint comes. As you see her sitting with 49K miles to date.
ss1970chev454 Jun 1st, 09, 1:48 PM that's wild! Bought mine on May 4, 1984. Here's a pic late winter of 85 after driving it one winter. Had 45K on it now has 99K.

My car purchased new in Wadsworth Ohio, about 40 minutes south of Cleveland. Yours, looks like a 307 badge to my old eyes, but otherwise a dead ringer to mine. Red bench seat interior, and I'd swear it still has that vinyl smell (been garaged since day 1)
Thankfully mine was fitted with the 2 bbl 350, rated at 250hp I believe. Stock short block still there :D
ss1970chev454 Jun 1st, 09, 4:18 PM And the world just got smaller! My car came from Courtsey Cheverlot in Mansfield, Oh. between here and Cleveland. Originally green with green buckets. Flint car late July build. Yes those were 307 emblems. Although, pictured here with 350/350 combo after the second owners daughter blew the motor and trans doing 55 mph in low gear. He painted the car corvette white and put rallys on it for her. She hated the car and I'm thankful for that!
I was introduced to it in 83, but being 16 YO I couldn't get past the green interior. The car found it's way back to me a year later and has been with me ever since.
To take it one step further. This was my second Chevelle, bought it my Jr. year in high school. There was another guy that bugged the crap out of me sell the car to him, of which I would not. We came back from summer break and he had a white 71 with a 70 front clip and rally wheels. We took turns get each other in trouble the rest of the year!
Did I mention it has red interior in it now!
I too would like to see your car with new wheels. Love your car man!
DET17 Jun 1st, 09, 6:16 PM Hopefully, here a couple pics of the old girl with new shoes on....I'm too old to enjoy open headers, but it did bring back some memories.....

gary salsman Jun 3rd, 09, 6:05 PM Beautiful car, especially for a survivor. To get back to the original question, I will be doing my second long haul this year. You won't see me in a Chevelle though, as my 66 is in a resto shop getting all new metal, I'll be driving my Plum Mist (Royal Plum for you chevy guys) 67 GTO. Can't wait to get started.

Good deal Gary, I'll look for you amongst the hundreds (thousands?) of cars if that is possible. My Malibu has GA antique tags on it so if you can find a white care which all the bling on tour, we'll chat.
First car I was ever smitten with was a 65 GTO 389 4 speed tri-power car....almost bought it and delayed Engineering school. Glad I didn't, but still love the lines of those cars.
See you on the tour! We take off tomorrow, drive to Champaign IL and then Madison Saturday. :D
str8tpiperoar Jun 4th, 09, 11:53 PM Leaving Sat morning for Madison...I'll be longhaulin' so maybe I can meet someone along the way...

People should start getting there shortly after noon and will be pulling in the rest of the afternoon. They usually start pulling out between 5 and 7. Power Tour venues are a constantly changing place. You are free to come and go as you please.

oregonjam Jun 5th, 09, 3:34 PM Does anybody know about what time the tour will arrive and depart the fairgrounds in South Bend, In.
We leave Racine,WI on Monday morning and drive 157 miles to South Bend.
We will be at the St Joseph's Fairgrounds and then leave there in the Monring, usually around 9 for the next destination in Michigan.
There will probably be a few cars there so you should be able to find us...
Two Lane Jun 5th, 09, 4:53 PM We'll be in Bristol, the final destination, on late-Thursday/early-Friday.
Next year, IF there is a POWER TOUR, & gas is not at $5.50 as predicted,
we hope to do the entire route, which will begin @ Bristol.
