Well guys tomorrow is the big day. After over 2 years of work, she's heading off to paint. :hurray: Here is a picture I took today. I have the rear bumper on to see how things mock up in allignment. Not bad but some adjustments are needed. In my signature has a bunch of pictures of what it looked like at the beginning, the process, ETC... It's an exciting feeling I'll tell you. I don't think I'll get much sleep tonight. Probably be at paint for a month or so. I'll post some finished pics when I get her back. I'll miss her!! Bob

Thanks for the comments guys. I have a whole new respect for bodymen/painters. My body/paint guy (Tommy Edmond Paint and Body) was nice enough to allow me to hang around and help out throughtout the process from time to time. (2 1/2 years) What a great experience. He has become a friend as well, I recommend him to anyone. PM me if anyone wants more info. Many pictures of the process in my signature. It didn't start out as a matching #'s car so I did it as a Resto/Mod. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and trying to get 15 MPG with the 700R4 tranny and EFI. More pics to come STRIPES!!!

Did they wet sand it for you? Or is that your handy work? I looked at mine today in the shop and was like Hey WTF. Mine needs to be cut and polished still and it will look better. Just a lot of dirt in my clear to me but it will come out. Yours looks very nice in the pictures congrats.

Thanks guys for the compliments! I debated for a long time about the color choice. I first wanted something that would be noticable from a 1/2 mile away on the highway. Then, when going to car shows I noticed a whole bunch of those bright colored Chevelles. At one show, there were 7 red Chevelles in a row. That's when I decided (actually, my wife decided, but don't tell anyone):secret: I was going for something different. The car is far from stock so what the heck! Even after picking the color combo, I still wasn't sure what the finished product would look like when it was complete. But if I can brag a bit here, It turned out great. Better than I thought and when the sun hits that metalic, just enough glitter without being overpowering. I think it says "MUSCLE" all the way. Now if I can get my wife to quit poking me and telling me "SEE, I told you so" OK I'm done bragging now! :p

Hmmm maybe NC isn't too far for a great paint job after all.

Do you have anymore pics outside? in the sun maybe.. you do have a crap load of good pics in your photo site

I was going to go the normal cortez silver but this might be better.

Here's one in the sun of a fender but with the light colored gravel on the ground you can't see much except the reflection. I'm a bit far away and pictures can't get the full perspective and view of the metalic. I'll take some more pictures when I get her home on my blacktop driveway. The Paint and Body man I found is great. He schedules everything and completes one job at a time. There are no cars at all that hang around uncomplete.

As much as I like red I tend to avoid the popular colors, too. One of these days I'll do a red car, though.

Bob,
That is just beautiful!!! I always liked these in Charcoal Grey. Shadow Grey on a '70 is what I originally wanted for mine, but my Wife convinced me to stay original (Mohave Gold). Hopefully, I will post my finished photos some day....

I agree that there are way too many red chevelles. (No offense to Anyone with a red 'velle, just my opinion.)

I spent $5,500 on Paint alone.. The body work is flawless and straight and I was billed for that on a T/M basis.

The paint line was Sikkens Autobase and clear coat
For 5,500 I had the whole car sprayed in surfacer then each panel block sanded. The entire front sheet metal installed and blocked too. all panels aligned then disassm. and painted with bace then clear. The finish was very nice and no dirt but my painter likes to wet sand with 2000 grit and final polish. Once that was done the car looks like glass
very happy with his craftsmanship

My GTO is the orginal color, Silver glaze metalic. My painter kept telling me it looks like Primer with clear coat..lol Its all original so i had to stick with that color, No regrets..it looks great in person

The Chevelle looks awesome too. I love the color

One color you might want to check out is a color by Mercedes Benz AMG
Its new and called Liquid Metal..Its only made by SpiesHeckler and I have a feeling its very expensive but I saw it on a car and its amazing.

Good luck to all that are finally getting your projects painted!! its always a good turning point for completion once its painted

That's a good price. Looks like a quality job too. Mine was closer to 6g's. 2000 grit then buffed as well. The bodywork was done by the same guy (Tommy Edmonds) was very pleased with the work and communication. He finished in a timely matter too. I'll be bringing her home next week. Good luck with the rest of your project.
