if you get there Friday by 5 pm, you can go on the Friday cruise. Last year we went to the Corvette museum, the previous two years were to the Nashville Superspeedway

Instead of a Friday night cruise this year there will be a parking lot autocross from about 4:30 til 7:00pm I believe. It's supposed to be in a church parking lot near the hotels next to I 65.

Really no cruise and no BBQ either? Suddenly I am not bummed out much at all about missing this year and letting my ACES membership expire. My two favorite reasons for attending chevelle~abration have been eliminated.

Those of us that dont drink probably have more fun just watching those who do. You just never know what might happen after they have had a few. No matter what you do you will have fun or you just arent trying.

If a little BBQ lunch and a drive thru the countryside really ARE your two favorite reasons for attending CB and the reason for letting your ACES membership expire...you've really missed the whole point of this celebration Jeff. :(

I agree. You can have BBQ and cruise in your car anywhere. The BEST part of Chevelle~a~Bration is hanging out with all the friends we've made through attending in years past. I go down there SOLEY for that reason. I only get to see most of those guys once a year

What Tom said. :D . When I first registered at this site many years ago I never imagined the friends I would have made because of it.Getting back to the original topic Friday night after the autocross all the local hotels are as much fun as the actual show . Plenty of cars to see plenty of knowledge to be shared. Biggest thing I learned is don`t be shy introduce yourself and talk with people . Now if you were coming down Thursday night the dragstrip is one of things I would have recommended . Probably the best of all the extra activities.
I will have a Blue 69 with NH tags stop by and say hello.

My brother and i setup our chairs under the tree right where the Chevelles pull off the pavement to enter the field on Friday morning...get to see, hear, and smell the cars as they enter...we also talk about our dislikes as well as likes on each Chevelle...as a side note, we also give a numerical grade to the better looking females that pass by..sort of like the Olympics ya know..6.8...7.5..8.3...never graded a 10 yet, but a few 9.0 or 9.2....to grade out a 10.0 would most likely involve a lap squirming competition....man i can't wait to get there;)

Glad to hear you're making the trip to attend Chevell-abration, JP. Since this is your first time (you won't be alone; we're seeing a large number of first-timers registered for this year's event), listen to the guys that have been there before, and just follow their lead. On second thought, that may not be such a good idea...

Anyway, like so many here have said, the cars are really cool to look at, learn about, and drool over, but it's the people that really make the event. For me, personally, it's a chance to connect and reconnect with folks that have become my extended family over the years. The hugs, handshakes and fond feelings are the best part for me.

There IS plenty to do, however, and you'll wanna try to see and do it all, which I've found to be nearly impossible simply because I like to talk with folks and look at Chevelles as my main priorities. Some of the distractions (attractions?) from that, however, are the vendors. This year we'll have Ausley's, Ground Up, and Hinshaw's providing an incredible selection of Chevelle parts at special show prices. Smart Chevell-abrators order parts from them ahead of time and have them delivered to the event to save shipping fees , and even worse, shipping damages. Also in attendance will be Baer Brakes, Detroit Speed & Engineering, Comp Cams, TCI, Be Cool, Legendary Interiors, Right Stuff Detailing, LaRue Classic Car Insurance Company, and TN Speed Sport.

There's also a pretty decent swap meet that always seems to bring out a lot of cool, hard-to-find, NOS and previously installed parts. Plus, there are informational seminars throughout the three days of the event. Which brings me to another thing I noticed in your post: "I will be coming down friday night and staying for saturday." This is a Thursday, Friday, Saturday event, JP, and if at all possible you should try to bump up your schedule to be there for the full day Friday. I believe most will agree that Friday is the big day to be there, as Saturday is pretty laid back, participants show up a little later as the effects of adult beverages and a couple late nights in the hotel parking lots take their toll. The day's schedule is shorter, too, as the awards ceremony begins at 3pm.

As for cruises, we'll still have our Thursday countryside cruise, ending up at Music City Raceway, where you can hang out for a night of tire-smokin', gear bangin', door-to-door drag racing. Friday night we have the previously mentioned autocross. And just tonight I was able to finalize the plan for an all-Chevelle caravan to the Hendersonville cruise-in, where the hosts have graciously agreed to have a special place set aside to park our Chevelles. This is great cruise for folks on the north side of Nashville, and when I was there tonight there were nearly 300 cars in the parking lot of the shopping center. If you're hungry there are plenty of restaurants to choose from; steakhouses, mexican, asian, sandwich shops, and fast food are all within walking distance of the cruise spot. It's only a few miles from the hotels, too, so even cars with a set of gears can easily make the cruise without difficulty or having to own their own private gas station.

The barbecue? Yeah, we had to put that on temporary hold. With the economy in a spin, we took the steps we felt were necessary to keep the event self-sustaining without denigrating the true nature of Chevell-abration, and eliminating the barbecue was one of them. We're just trying to exercise sound business judgment here, since it's highly doubtful that ACES or Chevell-abration would qualify for government subsidies. LOL! Once things settle down and we all hopefully regain economic traction, we'll reinvest in the event and continue to expand in the direction our participants show an interest in heading.

So what's there to do at Chevell-abration? Plenty. But my best advice is to get there early, and stay late. For all three days, if you can. See ya there, JP! Sorry you can't make it, Jeff.

Couple things to do at CB09. Hang out with that rowdy bunch hunkered down in the corner of the BW parking lot under the trees. Pay a visit to the Waffle House next door with that said group after midnight. Plead the fifth if you get caught. ;) l:)

Hang around Saturday evening after the show, long enough to get some of that jambalaya bein' served up in that same corner of the parking lot.

Chuck, your description of Chevell-abration sounds wonderful. I have been wanting to go for a few years now, and unfortunately 2009 will not be a year that I can attend. I hope that I can make it in 2010.

Pretty darn disrespectful joke about the southern women, besides not even being funny. :(
You trying to be another pdq67?

I've seen nothing but that well known GREAT southern hospitality every where I've gone in Nashville, including the Waffle House.

Your opinion is yours and yours alone...pdq67 ??? What is this a silent threat for a ban or what??? I don't even think you'd begin to understand what true "Southern Hospitality" actually is. Unless your thoughts are that it's ok for them toothless nasty waitresses to keep saying the f word all night in front of my family and nieces..So if this is your idea of "Southern Hospitality" you need a wake up call..As far as being disrespectful to Southern Women, I'm married to one!!! If you don't like the joke, oh well..
