: My new toy.
wade w May 28th, 09, 9:24 PM I just got this. I love El camino's. I have had 2 other ones. Wish I could have kept the first one, but thats how things go. I've had a 01 lightning for a while now. Its nice but its just not me. The chevelle in my signature is really my brothers. He's dissabled and lives with me. I help him with it, and drive it at the track most of the time. But its not mine and I like Elcamino's better. Anyway here it is.

It has a 4 point cage you can see a little here. It has new door panels and recovered buckets. It also has a factory center cosole.

I like that the bars come out under the back window. Going to have to get that panel replaced. It doesnt have one.

Really dont like this hole. They had a fuel cell here. You can see the 12 bolt from here. It has aftermarket axles that I have never heard of. C-clip eliminators and a spool. Not to sure if Im going to keep the spool. We have one in the chevelle and we drive it on the street, but I would like this one to be a little more user friendly.

Marv D May 30th, 09, 12:20 AM Just a couple of things to note,, if your going to be driving it on the street, LOOSE THE SPOOL. If you drive inthe rain,, LOOSE THE SPOOL, If you want to get more than 5000 miles out of the rear tires LOOSE THE SPOOL.
Drag axles are made to withstand the shock loading of launching the car on slicks, on a sticky track. They don't take kindly to wrapping up both directions of going around corners, reverse, anything that wants to bi-directionally 'work' the axle wil work harden it and it will fail.
KEEP the C-clip eliminators. ALWAYS a good idea.
Might as cut that roll bar out unless you just like the looks of it. It ain't anywhere NEAR legal. A car running 11.49 or quicker must have a roll bar, and the rule book has some very explicit instruction on how the rear supports and side bars will be atached, what size tubing, etc. To make that bar legal, you have to bring the rear supports out the top of the window, and run side supports that pass the driver between his left shoulder and his elbow. so,,,, might as well loose the roll bar.
You have found a VERY nice piece there and congrats. Just wanted to point out a couple of things that you would want to correct whichever way you went,, to the track or on the street.

Thanks for trying to help and all, but things are a little different here. The closest 1/4 mile track only cares about a roll bar if you go quicker than a 11.00. And the one it has is legal there. I know it wouldnt pass at a NHRA track, but thats fine with me. And as far as the spool. We have had one in the chevelle for over 5 years. It gets driven every were. Even on the inerstate. We have never had a problem with it. The only thing I dont like about it is the way it makes the tires chirp going around corners. Really I like it in the chevelle. Just wouldnt like it in the El camino for what Im wanting out of it. But I do thank you for trying to help.
