: Vacuum pump

Just wondering if there is any advantage from running 2 lines ( 1 to each valve cover) vs only 1 single line to one valve cover when installing a vacuum pump.

Not really, just a lot more plumbing.

you would think that equal pressure or vacuum on both sides might be better than a single line on one side? Having a few minor oil leaks, think'n this might help

No not really. Both heads tie to the lifter valley. You are pulling a vacuum basically through the cam drainback holes over the cam to the crank case. So the engine is at a fairly uniform pressure.

Thats interesting, the pump/set up is expensive, and I hope it will be worth it. Not to much trouble to put it on though

I know, that's why i haven't done it yet. There's always something else needed to go racing.

R you running Hooisers on your car? We are thinking of switching to Goodyears,

Nope, I run the 16X32 Goodyears on mine. Probably change them this winter.

How do they work for you? Chnage to what, we weight 2880pds

I'm just putting on a new set. Mine weighs 3200 lbs, so far it's gone 1.27 in 60ft.

Wow, great 60ft time! Thats something I need to work on. I have'nt had a full pass yet, without some minor trouble, 8 partial runs. Pullin 1.4 @ the 60ft, leaving at 4,000 rpm. We are going to turn it up a bit and try leaving at 4,500, I have a 5700 stall and need to close that range up a bit.

I leave with mine at 4600.

letsrock
May 29th, 09, 12:52 PM
Thats where I should be, been told to leave @ 5000, but don't want to tear anything up quite yet. Also we have been shifting @ 6,500, going to up that some too, max hp is @ 7200. The biggest problem I am having is trying to decide if I should go pro or super pro. Not sure if I can leave on the bottom bulb and get back to the shifter in time.

If peak power is 7200, you should be shifting it there or even a little higher. As far as starting line rpm, see what the car likes. There is no SET rpm. Sometimes leaving at a lower rpm gives a heavy car a push, by giving the engine a running start at the converter.

Yea, we need to push the shift light to about 6800 or so.

Very nice. It looks like that thing should fly. I wish mine sat that low. Mine is still at stock ride height. Kind of like pushing a house through the air at speed.:D

Yea, we need to push the shift light to about 6800 or so.

I shift mine at 7500 rpm and cross at 7500 at 145 mph.

Ha, ha, its pretty low, drags the ramp sometimes going into the hauler. Going to drop the back another 1" this fall. All I need is more track time! I uploaded a video, not sure if it worked or not

The only time I made a decent run ( missed 2nd gear ) damm gloves, the shift light came on @ 6500 crossed @ 140mph

It takes a little time to get used to driving in the monkey suit. Last year was the first time in 20 years of racing wearing a full face helmet for me. I still hate it.

I need to check the tranny, slammed into 2nd fine, light came on for 3rd, pulled the lever to get to 3rd and had too much pressure on the stick, jumped into 1st @ 115mph, did'nt catch, but spooled the tranny and the rev limited came on, slammed into 3rd went the 140 @ 9.7 did this 2tms, need to pull the pan and see if anything falls out on the ground!

That's definitely odd. What shifter do you have in the car?

letsrock
May 29th, 09, 2:31 PM
Its a hurst, it was just me, hanging on to tight, need to relax and stay off the lever, then straight back slap to 3rd w/lever in. I was having a blast, all over the track, @ about 130 or so, kept washing out the rear. But what do you expect when you miss a gear, with the throttle mashed and then upshift, mored worried about the trans, hope I did'nt hurt it.

It'll take time. I have the 1/4 stick in mine and it's just second nature to grab the ball to shift second and then grab the lever to shift third. Believe it or not for me going downtrack actually happens in slow motion now. I drive the car pretty much by feel until it's in high gear and then I look downtrack.

letsrock
May 29th, 09, 2:42 PM
yea, just need more track time, may change out the shifter if I can't get it right.

Uploaded a pict of it http://s612.photobucket.com/albums/tt203/my_662009/

How do you get your web page to come up on your posts? Your not typing it each time?

I think, you click on the USER CP thing at the top of the page, and then go to Edit signature, and you add the link to the box there. It's been a while since I did it.
