Ok, I finally got that mess of old air shock extended stuff off the back. I am wondering, though, about the plumbing of the shocks.... there is a steel line from the valve to a distribution block on the rear frame crossmember, then it has steel lines going to the shocks with a flex line attaching to the shocks. Would this be factory original stuff? No wonder the shocks didn't work - if they are original equipment.....

Got the car waxed and ordered a few things from NPD - never used them before so I'll give them a try. I won't buy from OPG even though they have a decent catalog....

I believe what you are talking about are the OE lines. I know my 72 has some metal lines that were cut off in certain spots and they did feed to rubber lines going to the air shock.

I got rid of the air shocks in general and put in regular ones for now.

I have a one owner El Camino. That sounds like the factory set up. If the short rubber hoses are still there donot damage them, They are hard to come by.

when i re-did my rear susp. i yanked the old air shocks, that were OE stuff and put in a pair of koni's. now wish i would have put in new air shocks. my elco had HD coils ( the old farmer i bought it from claimed i could hual 750lbs. of hog feed) that i swaped out for std. springs. doesnt take much more than one keg of beer to bottom the susp. now.

i put used springs from a buick sport wagon(same as vista cruiser). they have the right ride height and will take the weight of atleast a full SBC.

After changing the rear bumper, I have come to the conclusion that the lines are all the factory original stuff. I will remove the hard lines and flex lines and put them away for later.

The extra bumper that came with the purchase of the car was actually an original that had been straightened and re-chromed.... nice that it was not a re-pop.

a pair of airlift 1000 inserts would solve your problem, and still be adjustable.

I've had 6 elcamino's and put them in each one. :thumbusp:
