Does anyone have the specs (travel, t-bar) for a stock or ZQ8 steering box from a '97 S-10? I can't find the info anywhere. I'd like to compare the specs to Jeep, MC, Caprice/Impala steering boxes.
Also, anyone know if AC Delco reman steering boxes are good (in that you get the correct ratio and t-bar, instead of possible mystery internals?)
Thanks!

bump. Anyone? Would this info possibly be located at the library? The factory service manual doesn't list the specs.

All I know is the ZQ8 steering boxes are 12.7.1. I bought a close ratio PS box reman thru NAPA They have to look it up and order it but there is one listed for Chevelles. I bought this one four years ago and installed it on my 72.Looks good, works fine, last long time.

Thank you for your reply. I went and used a protractor to measure the swing of the pitman arm on my stock '97 S10 box and the stock Chevelle steering box. They seemed pretty close to the same swing both ways (within a few degrees). Also, I figured if a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited steering box works on a Chevelle (especially the swing), and the ZQ8 box from an S10 also works on a Chevelle with no steering issues, the Jeep box would work on the S10 :) . So, I bought a Jeep GC box from AC Delco for a killer price and will now verify that it is definitely 12.7:1 and has approx. 2.5(?) turns lock to lock.
Wish I knew where the technical specs of the Saginaw ZQ8 box could be found.

Here are the specs for the 2WD, 1999 & 2000 S-10 SQ8 power gear
Alpha Code: UY
Travel: 42 degrees Left & 43 degrees Right
Ratio: 12.7:1
T-Bar Dia: 0.199
Here are the specs for the 2Wd, 2001 S-10 SQ8 power gear
Alpha Code: AW
Travel: 42 degrees Left & 43 degrees Right
Ratio: 12.7:1
T-Bar Dia: 0.210
Those are the only three that I have. I suppose that you can assume that the 1997 should be similar. If you find that the 1997 alpha code is UY, you can be assured that it is the same as the 1999 & 2000 gear.

Thanks Jim! I appreciate you posting those specs. Gets me what I was after. Awesome
