: Mystery brake line

We have a 1972 chevelle without power brakes. I noticed a line that comes out of the brake line junction box (on the frame beneath the master cylinder) that points up toward the engine and is not connected to anything. The end of the line has a hose nipple, not a compression fitting. Any clue what this is and what it's supposed to connect to?

Thanks!

are all your front brake lines hooked up. I think the one that points to the motor is to the drivers front. Have you drove the car?

We rebuilt the engine and in the process of hooking things up when we noticed this line - still not quite ready to drive. The brake lines to the front wheels appear to be in place. As I said in my original post, the loose end of the line in question doesn't have a compression fitting - it's just a tube with nipple like one that would normally be connected to a rubber hose.

Actually, I was mistaken. The line goes *under* the brake line distribution block to the back of the car and seems to end up in a little box behind the back seat. I realize that this is no longer a brake question, but still hoping someone knows what this line is.

Normally, that should be hooked up to a recovery canister near the radiator support (drivers side) and through a series of hoses and valves, allows the vapors to be sucked into the intake manifold, instead of evaporating into the atmosphere. That little box at the rear should have a line running to the gas tank.

yeah thats what it sounds like to me too. I just plugged mine with a bolt, you really dont need it. that line runs up to the charcoal canister up near the radiator. 71, 72 started the fuel emission crap. I plugged mine but if your doing oringinal you might wanna hook up.
