: Whats this hose on the distribution block for?

Im chasing a weird problem with the brakes on my 66 Bronco (Not power assist). I occasionally lose pressure once then everything is fine. Master cylinder has been replaced and i cant find any leaks anywhere and have bled the lines countless times.

I've noticed that both the front and rear lines go into a brass distribution block on the axles that splits the line to both wheels. The distribution blocks also have a rubber hose clamped on. The hoses goes up about a foot and have nothing connected to the other end. Is this just another place to bleed the lines? Im wondering if its leaking into those hoses.

Hey its a ford :D Normally the brake fluid is fed from a hard line to a flexible hose which attatches at the axle and splits to both sides. If the rubber hose on the distribution block isnt hooked to anything how is the fluid getting fed to the axle? Also dont rule out a bad master, if it was a rebuilt you installed I have bad ones right out of the box.

Doug,
That might be the vent hose for the rear differential housing. If it is the vent,there is no connection to the brakes hydraulic system.

This picture should help clarify.

The hose is not like a high pressure brake line - more like a vacuum line hose. After I try a couple more things I plan on replacing the master again. 4 lines are connected to the distribution block( if im using the right term).

Thats the vent for the diff. Hose should go to a level somewhere above tire to keep water out when
off road or going through small streams.

Thanks - didn't occur to me that the hose fitting went all the through into the axle. graemlins/clonk.gif

Now on to getting this thing sold so I can paint the chevelle.
