I want to lift rear of my 66 and have decided to use air bags after advice from you guys. Any tricks that may make things go a littler easier? Thanks Duane.

I installed Air Lift bags (Drag Bags) in both my 67 and 69. Had to wrangle the bags in the 69 a bit, but the space in between the coils was much larger in the 67 and they went right in.

Extremely simple job.

A word of warning, you don't get much lift from the bags. I have to inflate them to max pressure to get my desired ride height. At the max inflation pressure the ride is pretty stiff.

I have the Air Lift drag bags on my 66 and i agree 100% with Scott.

Air Lift does make the AirLift1000 or something like that. these are a bit different and made of a different material than the drag bags. they may lift the car more, but i have no idea as ive never used them.

Thanks for the feed back. I ordered a set of hotchkis air bags from year one. But after reading what Scott said I don,t know if I should keep them or send them back. I,m wanting to get about one inch of lift. I am glad to hear that it's not too hard of a job. Scott, if you think I can get a inch of lift I would like to hear back from you. Thanks Duane

I have the airlift air bags in mine...about 65.00 thru Summit...you can easily attain 1" lift with those.

I have the air lift 1000's in my 70 elky- they easily lifted the rear 1/2"-1" wiht the normal 10lbs of pressure over the stock rear height. Fill them all the way to the 35lbs max limit and it will be close to 1.5"-2" lift over stock.

I don't know about the drag bags or what is different from the air lift 1000's.

When you install them, be sure to valve them individually, not together like air shocks.

Valved separatly they will actually help with handling quite a bit- if you valve them together, they will actually hurt the handling.

Basically when they are valved together the air will squoosh out of one back over to the other bag with less load on it when the car corners. If you valve them separatly, the air can't escape, and it acts as a way stiffer spring- so it will corner much better.

To me the difference in cornering was way more important than the ride height, but it definitely helped.

Stupid question......So all you do when installing these air bags is slide them into your rear springs and inflate them? If they stiffen up the suspension then they should help traction a decent amount no?

Hey pegleg thanks

I'm about a week late in responding to your post, but better late than never. I just installed Airbag 1000's in my 70 SS396, primarily to get a better ride height. I'm running 8psi. The rear end is raised 1" higher than it was and the result is great - sit's oh so nice! Firmed up the rear suspension a bit, but works great. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

i would have to pump my drag bags up to near max pressure to get that lift.

can anyone comment on how the airlift1000 bags perform on the strip?
