Of the parts needed to make an at home rear bushing press. I have searched until my fingers have turned blue - can that someone (or another someone) repost???

I tried to find that post and couldn't. I had thought it was posted by AdamLym but I don't know why I think that. A long shot might be to email him and ask if it was him. smile.gif

Someone posted this a while back. I used the idea and it worked just fine.

Close - should work... what ID is the pipe?
Did you use regular threaded rod, or stronger grade??

Hey, Joe. Good to hear from you.

Haven't seen seen any posts from you around here for a while.

I still have your pitman arm socket and adapter. I emailed you a couple times to see when would be a good time to get it back to you but never heard anything. I figured you just had some stuff come up that was keeping you busy.

Give me a call or drop me a email and let me know when you want me to bring it by.

P.S. I made a rear bushing press out of (2) 2 1/2" pipe caps and a piece of 1/2" all-thread rod (be carefull of galling if stainless). A small sledge hammer and a block of wood works pretty good also, as long as you clean the inside of the "ears". freezing the bushing didn't help me much, but probably wouldn't hurt.

Yeah, Charles... Life at the Mot has been trying at best - those that have not been layed (laid?) off are working double to keep up.

Just now needing the socket - but I still am having a b____ of a time getting the pittman arms off. Bought a full price puller, used heat torch - nothing seems to work.

Drop me another mail - I will be out of town this afternoon and tomorrow, but maybe Thursday/friday????

Did you use regular all thread - I tore mine all up....

Here's a thread from the Tips and Fixes forum:

Deals with this homemade press, gives details.

Now that I think about it, I used a 1/2" grade 8 bolt and not the all-thread.

The way I did mine was to drill out the old rubber bushing, then use a hammer and chisel to remove the old housing.

I then cleaned up the inside of the "ear" with some sand paper or something to remove the corosion. I froze the new housing overnight. I then used a combination of the 2 pipe caps / bolt and a small sledge / wood to get the housings in. I think I used the "press" to get the housing in about 1/2 way, then finished with the hammer. Actually went pretty quickly, at least compared to removing the old ones.

I will send you another Email.

P.S. Have you tried that rust blaster stuff on the pitman arm to loosen it up?
