And the Chevelle ran flawless. I took my GPS along to check the speedo to see how far off it was so I can order a new driven gear. Anyway I filled up in Clearview and reset the trip and I stopped at the same gas station on the way home so I could figure out my gas mileage. I took it easy keeping it around 65 but did take it up to 70 for a couple of miles on the way home and I got 12MPG which I think is great. I got 12MPG with the 396 with an overdrive tranny and it only ran 12.9 so with a bigger motor, no overdrive and an 11.7 1/4 I think 12 MPG is very good for this combo....

12mpg sounds good to me. I don't know what the Buick gets on a road trip but I'd be happy if it got 12mpg as well.

12 mpg does sound great Kevin! You must have that F-A ratio right-on

It is pretty good but it cruises 65 at 12.7-13 AF. Around town under 45 it cruises at 15-16 which is great. I think the problem is the torque converter slipping at 3000 rpm on the freeway. I notice that I have to keep my foot in it to keep a steady speed. Not a big deal as it runs real well.
