Does anyone know if any companies are making springs with different spring rates for our Chevelles/El Caminos? What I'm looking for is a selection of rates so that I could dial in my car once it's built. Basically, I'm cheap and I'm trying to avoid buying a HAL coilover setup, as much as I'd like it. Is the coilover basically my only option as far as this goes?

Just thinking outloud,

Ryan,

I am going this route:

1. Adjustable Hidden Spring Shim (http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/asp/strBase_List./hilt./source.2191/base_no.91645551/str_base_no.3001000%2C3007100%2C5501285%2C582A200% 2C91025102%2C91045538%2C91045555%2C91045560%2C9104 5565%2C91089808%2C91645533%2C91645535%2C91645550%2 C91645551%2C91720243%2C/header_title.Race+Products%2DStandard+Coil+Spring+ Accessories/page_name.prod%5Flist%5Fdisplay%2Easp/search_type.L2%7E712/search_option./deptsearch./dept_id.L2%7E712/dept_id_p./dept_name./dept_name_p.Race+Products/ShowImages.yes/sq.0/cont.1/intPgNo.1/redirect./qx/product.htm). You can get them for about $30 a pair if you watch Circle Track Magazine.

2. Used Winston Cup Springs (http://www.musclemotorsports.com/suspension-springs-9-5--front.html). (Yes they will be used Nextel Cup Springs soon, but the used ones are still Winston Cup right now. tongue.gif )

So basically you can still adjust your front ride height, and you can get springs in 25# incriments. This is now as easy or cool looking as the coil overs, but fairly econmical and pratical.

Any others???

Thanks RJ - that's pretty cool stuff.

Are those used springs the right height (or close enough anyways?). I don't know how tall a stock A-body spring is.

Thanks for the heads up!

According to Fred Aldrich's (http://members.core.com/~faldrich/mysprings.htm) site the installed height of the average stock spring is arond 11.5" tall. I was planning on the 8" spring with the tall adjuster. This will give me starting adjustments from 11.125" to 13.5" and I can cut the top of the spacer to whatever height I wish.

And Ryan, get some more photos on the webpage. I want to checkout you ride. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks again, RJ. I think you just saved me about $300.

I will do my best with the webpage, but school just started up again so I have to do "homework."

Thanks for your help! graemlins/beers.gif
