I want to install my new QA1 coilovers on my frame but the body isn't on the frame and the engine isn't even in the frame yet. Since I can't use a conventional spring compressor is there any way to install these without the weight of the car to work against? With the spring at the lowest adjusting point, the top of the shock mount is only slightly taller than the top of the spring so I will need to find a way to compress the spring some amount to get things in place enough to hook up the ball joints.

It can be done. Check out THIS (http://www.71protouringchevelle.com/021503-09.JPG) picture and note the way I kept the chassis from raising up, using a piece of steel tubing between the frame & ceiling, while jacking on the bottom of the control arm. Crude, but effective!

Thanks, that looks like a great idea. Much better than the chain-the-floor-jack-to-the-frame idea I was mulling over.
