Hi i am putting gen. VI 454 in 64 chevelle. I changed to aluminum intake and holley with hei. Trying to find out if i can run old style alt brackets, so that i can keep alt. on drivers side. The car has no power steering or ac. All that i need is single groove pulleys. Also noticed that the alumnium intake does not cover the back of the block completely. After intake is on about 1/16" block in back shows shows. Any help would apreciated.:beers:

I had to bore out the holes in the brackets that went into the cylinder heads.
My earlier heads were set up for 3/8-16 accessory holes; the Vortecs I have are set up for 7/16-14.

What intake are you running? I have a Performer RPM Airgap and had the classic problem with the alternator bracket hole in the intake being in the wrong place. I got mad enough that I bought a March alternator bracket for $150. Guess I showed Edelbrock huh.l:)
My 65 does not have power steering either. I have the pump and the steering box, but I elected not to put it on. I don't mind manual and it looks cleaner to me. I can post a pic of the bracket if you would like.
As far as the block being "uncovered", I am not sure what you mean. If you are referring to the intake not covering the back of the block completely, I did not have that issue with the airgap. I did have to remove a little material between the valve cover rails. The bosses were touching the heads there and not letting the intake sit all of the way down. That was likely due to me cutting the heads .030 though.
