396 Motor has been sitting for years. took it apart and cam and lifters are not worn so i want to reuse them. they are just gunked up becaus the manifold was off, what is a good way to clean solid lifters? i should be able to get air pressure through them by blowing them with a air hose right? i soaked them in a solvent tank blew them out and it sprayed out the solvent but seems to have poor flow with just air. i know i can buy them but wish to reuse. help!

I had to clean my lifters too.
I dunked them in a bucket of hot water and used my air compressor to clean them. Just hold them under water while blasting them with the compressed air. This way seemed to work best.
The first few I just sprayed with brake cleaner, then used compressed air. Then realized that the compressed air under hot water got them completely clean.

You kept the lifters in order of the lobes -right ?

Yes I did. :hurray:
This is my first engine I completely tore down and am redoing. What i am confused with is the hole/orifice on top for the pushrod, you can look in there and see a flat ground surface. Is there a piece inside there that doesnt move that acts like a baffle? then under that on the side is a hole.
