OK I went and bought the 68-72 TH400 shifter cable on Ebay. Converted my 66 Malibu trom PG to TH400.

How does the cable fit into the shifter from below??- there isn't a hole large enough in the shifter base to be able to pass this cable through. Now what??? Anyone done this???

The shifter looks like a stock shifter for a 66-67, they originally used manual linkage and never used a cable. From looking at the pic, it's hard to tell, but if the shifter has been converted to be used with a cable, there should be a bracket welded on the front pad of the shifter, (the portion where 4 screws attach base to floor), the cable itself doesn't come through the shifter except through the bracket that has to be welded to the base. The hole that the cable comes through the floor has to be cut into the floor just in front of the shifter. You need to go to http://shiftworks.com/, they have everything you need including the template on where you need to cut the shifter cable opening. If this shifter was originally designed to be used for a powerqlide, they also have the conversion kit.
