I have a 66 chevelle with a 406ci small block and a m21 4 speed. I am shopping for a set of headers and really like the idea of the shorty style because my car is low. However in my search I have been reading that most shorty headers will have have clearence issues with my 4 speed. I was wondering if anybody knew why or experienced this problem. I dont want to blow a few hundred if they wont work.

Ian, From what I understand, shorty headers really don't do much for performance over stock manifolds. I have the Hedman Elite long tube headers on my '66 396. They fit nice and tight both under the hood, and under my Chevelle. Before I got the Hedmans,I had purchased the Hooker Comp Plus, and those hung entirely too low underneath. I hope this helps,Good Luck...Bob

Ian, I also was looking for mids for my 66 sbc. However there are very few that fit a z-bar. Suprisingly it looks like the summit full length dont hang too far down, I am going to give them a try for $180. Otherwise there is Stan's midlengths for $500.
