If you have a compressor buy a hand held sand blaster and do it yourself , with the exception of frames and bodys I do all my own blasting. 67shovel May 19th, 09, 1:37 PM If they aren't to rusty you can keep spraying them with metal prep and follow up with some hand sanding or wire wheeling. caminonut May 19th, 09, 2:32 PM i am receving a set of used headers and i was told they needed to be sandblasted. i have called a few local places and they want a good chunk of change to sandblast them, are there any alterntives to sandblasting?I don't think I'd use sand on a set of heads but that's just me, You may want to try blasting them yourself first with Baking Soda that does a nice job on a lot of things... Keith Tedford May 19th, 09, 2:52 PM I sand blasted a set at home in less than an hour. The finish gives a good clean surface for the high heat paint to bond to. I don't see any down side. fishhead May 19th, 09, 6:07 PM There is some rust remover on the shelf of advanced auto that gets brushed on and wiped off. Works well...so does Muriatic acid (really cheap) but you have to protect the metal somehow because it rerusts right away... |
