: Here's a Nice 70 for the Money!
704EVER May 19th, 09, 9:19 AM I just noticed this car on Ebay. It looks to be a very nice car for the money. It's got good colors, buckets, 4 speed, tach and guages and under the hood looks decent. More often than not cars like this seem to be priced up in the 30's. For anyone looking, this car deserves a closer look. I suspect it won't last long.

Herb396 May 19th, 09, 10:09 AM Nice looking car but way overpriced for a clone coupe. Looks like it should be a $18 - $20K car.

I don't see where it says clone anywhere in the description. If the VIN reads right, its an Oshawa built car and it will have all the options including Z25 on the cowl tag if its real. Price is more than fair....an $18-20K 70 potential SS usually buys some cobbled up,local cruise night special around here in NE..so for 28K to get the real deal..even w/o matching numbers is not of the question :)

Herb, I'd buy 10 of these cars for 18/20K if they were out there. I'm looking at this car as a very nice, not all hacked up driver. Even though it's a NOM car, I've seen plenty cars of this caliber for sale in the low to mid 30's. I would guess that if a dealer had this car, they'd be asking much more for it.
Dean May 19th, 09, 10:45 AM The price seems a little low to me.
It looks pretty darn nice for a 15 year old restoration.
Bunz-T May 19th, 09, 10:50 AM How is it that when so many people that are looking for a 70 never find a car like this. $18-20K .......you got to be kidding me. So many who are looking that do not give this one some consideration are not going to find one.
Love that 8 track player and box of tapes.
1BLACKHARLEY May 19th, 09, 10:58 AM i have to tell you, unless there is some frame damage, or a bunch of bondo under the paint, that car would be fairly priced in socal. in fact most of you went threw my whining last year of trying to find a decent 70, and if this car would have been available, i would probably own it. it may not be 100% correct, but it looks nice enough for a hack like me...
18 to 20k in socal wouldn't get you anywhere near this nice...
ulySSes May 19th, 09, 11:27 AM Nice car. Wasn't it for sale here some time ago?
1badss396 May 19th, 09, 11:30 AM Looks like a good deal to me.
JpMotorsports May 19th, 09, 11:49 AM I think its a very nice car I bet if he detailed the undercarriage he could get a little more for it
Bob Flynn May 19th, 09, 11:58 AM Wow ! that car is only 5 miles from me, would love a 70 but I still have my 65
RoyalPlum67SS May 19th, 09, 12:41 PM I agree, I think its worth that. I watched it run last week on ebay and it only got bid to around 24K I believe. Maybe its a sign of how tight things seem to be getting in the economy.
JIM May 19th, 09, 12:59 PM I sold my '70 red/black Chevelle years ago to a guy in Hackettstown NJ. Wonder if it is the same car?
syracuse elkyman May 19th, 09, 11:34 PM something looks kinda odd in that 1 pic of the trunk ???
Herb396 May 20th, 09, 12:11 AM You boys must have a lot cash on hand...but I guess that's why it's for sale,,and not sold.
rubadub May 20th, 09, 1:11 AM How can you put a price on a car without clear pictures of the underside or some kind of proof of a lot of new sheet metal.
Thats where the money is on these cars, this could be a $8,000.00 car or a $40,000.00 car.

Rob, I agree with you 100%. Only so much can be seen in an Ebay listing. Any listing itself, with no underneath pictures, should be used only to let prospective buyers know the car is for sale and "OPEN TO INSPECTION". Too often buyers won't travel or spend the money for a proper inspection, shame on them when a rusted out bondo bucket shows up at their door. These 40 year old cars need to be seen IN PERSON by the buyer or a qualified inspector. There are too many hidden areas that can be very expensive fixes down the road.

True, any of these cars can look very nice and be a total bondo bucket.
We can only guess without a personal inspection even WITH underside pictures.
This whole "what's it worth" on the net is nothing more than a guessing game based on what we see on a computer.
SixActual May 21st, 09, 4:11 PM And it's Registered with non-Historical NJ plates, which means it may have had to be Inspected. In one pic, it appears to have a Blue NJ Inspection sticker in the lower left hand side of the windshield, but it's kind of difficult to see, and it may be scraped off. Not too sure....
Minge May 21st, 09, 6:34 PM Well, I am at a loss, Bob Flynn who was kind enough to volunteer to go look at the car for me as it is right in his back yard has called the seller twice without a return call. This was after it took three attempts to get a phone # for this guy. Mike (704ever) called me this morning after speaking to the seller and the seller said he would rate the paint and the body a solid 7, which to me translates into a nice driver. Bob who I reached out to who was kind enough to volunteer his time to go look at the car for me thinks the seller is playing games that is why he is not calling him back.. I am not sure what to think..
Bunz-T May 21st, 09, 7:13 PM Well lets see what you have so far......
A car that seems to be priced fairly but no bids at way back of that money.
A seller unwilling to accomodate an interested buyer.
A pretty quick deposit requirement of 24 hours.
A description that leaves a lot of questions about actual condition.
The only plus I see so far is another great member offering to go look.
I think now is the time to let the car come to you. If Bob does not get a return call with the opportunity to go look it might be time to move on. Do nothing without his personal observation.
704EVER May 21st, 09, 8:11 PM John, I just don't get this seller. It takes him 2/3 days to reply to an email, which irks me to no end. Finally, I get him on the phone this morning and he seems like a very nice regular guy. I get the old, I'm busy, busy, busy story, sorry for not getting back to you. Anyway, I talk to the guy for a while about the car, explaining Bob wants to come and look at the car, he lives virtually next door. No problem, I have a few guys that want to come and look at it, your more than welcome to, was the reply. He's had the car for 4/5 years, paid considerably more for it and sunk another couples of G's into it over the years, by his account. From here, the lack of communication is even more annoying. I have a sneaking suspicion that this guy really doesn't want to sell this car and maybe the pressure to sell it, is coming from somewhere else in the home. This guy either doesn't really want to sell the car, is off the wall or is so eccentric he's a nightmare to deal with. As a motivated seller, I would reply and answer every single call as they came in. In this case I just don't get it.
704EVER May 21st, 09, 8:29 PM Here's an update on my above post, the seller of this car is a cop working crazy hours right now. He can't answer the phone on the job and has had very limited access to his home computer, Bob may get to see the car tomorrow. I guess everyones lives are different and sometimes there is a reason for lack of communication. It can be annoying to the common person but I guess this is the situation.
Minge May 21st, 09, 10:18 PM Mike thanks for the update, I hope Bob is able to connect with Kevin the seller. I hope this is all worth everyone's time in the end. As I said from the get go, no ones time is free and I have had people take time for me when they do not know me from Adam. Mike how were you able to find this information out?
Bunz-T May 30th, 09, 7:45 AM This car ever get looked at? Status now?
704EVER May 30th, 09, 7:58 AM This car ever get looked at? Status now?
John, something odd is going on here with this car. The seller will answer my calls from Fl., yet won't answer Bobs' calls or respond to his messages in an attempt to look at the car. The seller is well aware that a buyer is interested in having the car looked at by someone who lives a couple of miles from him yet there is no communication or cooperation on his part. I just dont get it, maybe this listing is just an outright scam.
prefectca May 30th, 09, 10:07 AM something looks kinda odd in that 1 pic of the trunk ???
I see that the plugs in the trunk are installed the wrong way up for being in the trunk. Also I see "cowl induction" emblems on the hood but the car doesn't have cowl induction and there are no clear pictures of the rear of the hood to see if it has the door or not. Makes me wonder what else he is hiding. I would ask for a picture of the cowl tag to see what the car started out as. Being an Oshawa car some options will be on that tag, or the tag may be mysteriously missing from the car.

Minge Jun 1st, 09, 11:41 AM This guy is a bit of a mystery, he is clearly either does not want to car inspected or does not want to sell it. I have made it known to him more than once, I have someone willing to look at this car on my behalf and I get no response....Again, I have said this earlier there is something that does not smell right on this car or he simply could care less if he sells it or not.
Either way it is a lost cause.
syracuse elkyman Jun 1st, 09, 12:55 PM that kind of guy is called a stroker!!:thumbsup:
