Hi everyone, I have another problem with my chevelle again  when I my turn signals are on and im making a turn i have noticed sevral times that the turn siginal stays on after the wheel is straightened. I think its the turn signial cancelling cam, if this is the problem how do you replace a cancelling cam and how hard is it to do?

It's not that hard to do if you have the right tools. Of course the steering wheel will need to come off and then remove the lock plate. The turn signal switch is held in place by three screws. Do a search on this site and there should be some detailed instructions.

sounds to me that you have a broken turn signal cancelling spring. If the cancelling cam were broken the signals probably would not cancel in either direction. However if you're pulling the steering wheel anyway it may not be a bad idea to replace the cam, they do get rather brittle after 40 or so years. The cancelling springs are still available from the dealer, but if they can't find a listing for your car tell them to look up a mid 90's buick century or lesabre or caprice/impala. You could also try your local napa as these springs have been the same for quite some time. Do yourself a big favor and buy a steering wheel puller and a lock plate removal tool. The lock plate can be removed without the tool but it's a real PITA. You shoundn't need to remove the turn signal switch to install the springs or the cancel cam. Hope this helps! good luck!

I cut an inch and a quarter off a piece of 3"x11/4" heavy channel iron and drilled a 3/4" hole in the middle of it. Works great.
