I was wondering if Dan Carr or anybody ever poked around into the 1959 -1960's El Camino's I'm wondering if anybody has any estimates of how many were built with the 348 and also the 348 Tri-Power ? My guess is their are no records but is there an educated estimate out there ? Total production in 59 was 22,246 and for 1960 14,163 units, but with so many engine options , ??? Any thoughts, comments would be appreciated. Thx :beers:

There are no numbers for engines
there is no way to tell what engine came in any given car either.
11xx series were 6 cylinder
12xx series were v-8s
nothing in the vin or trim tag will denote what engine.
I will mention that the 348 tri power had it's very own engine harness and ballast in 1959.
The coil was also mounted to the firewall on the 348 tripple.
My 59 was a tri power 348 with a 3-spd.
the harness is way different than any of my parts car harnesses.
But alas---that engine is gone now and a 454 HO resides where the 348 once was.
A serial number check sometimes will also come back incorrect.
My serial number came back as a 6-cyl sedan delivery as opposed to a v-8 sedan pickup.
Chevytalk.org----------has a very active 58-60 forum, these guys are fanatical about their cars (yep---me too).
Not nearly as busy as here------but some real informative people on their particular cars.
Of course I just do not understand how anyone could think that their 58 or 60 is so much better than the 59---their wrong-----59 rocks (heh heh heh)

When I was a kid there was a black `60 with the FI 283 in my neighborhood. It was gorgeous from a distance and even more so up close with the "fuel injection" script on the fenders.
