: Driveshaft delima

My 70 Elco had a 700r4 from the previous owner, they shortened the driveshaft to fit the 700 trans.

I need a driveshaft for a T-350, however my buddy says the salvage yards bend the driveshafts when forking them. So they are not available at a wrecking yard.:(

I don't mind paying for a quality driveshaft, however the T-350 is only until I finish building my t-400.

So the questions are:
1. Where do you find used driveshafts?
2. Will a driveshaft for a T-350 also fit a T-400?
3. Is there a simple solution to this?

Thanks!

If you don't mind paying a little more I would have one made. When I have purchased used ones they wound up being bent.

Not ALL junkyard shafts are bent but better than 50% are bent slightly. Not always visible until its on a lathe.Cost of the time spent to check a couble of bad ones, you are well on the way to build a new one.
400 is longer than a 350 and output splines/seal are different.Used 350/700 slip yokes are easy to find....so build driveshaft to fit 350 w/used slip then have it shorten to fit the 400 w/a new slip yoke.
FYI- make sure your 400 does NOT have a threaded hole in the end of output shaft. That design is for a bolt-on rear yoke and makes it difficult to set up a slip yoke with proper spline contact and travel
