When you convert to a one wire alternator from the standard 3 wire, will the amp gauge still work? If not, what does is take to make it work. Thanks Edd

It should, the other wires for a 3 wire or externally regulated alt should not have anything to do with an amp guage. Without knowing exactly what you have now I can't be sure but you should be ok.

WHY on Earth would a person downgrade to a "one-wire" alternator?

It's not like it's hard to keep track of three wires when two of 'em are in a connector that only plugs in one way.

You will need to connect the output wire to the horn relay not the battery.
