OK, working now. Those do look strange. Not your normal Chevrolet stamping from the early 70's era. Sorry I can't help more. Can you see casting number on back of the block?

The 3973487 head was used along with the 3973487X head on just about every 350 made in 1971 and 1972. It was made in both 1.94 and 2.02" valve versions, with the 1.94 one obviously being the more common one.You should be able to tell which one this simply by pulling a valve cover. The 1.94 versions have the pressed in rocker studs and no guide plates. The 2.02 versions were from Z28 and Corvette engines with a solid lifter cam so they have the screw in studs and guide plates.
Nothing I have shows a 2DI engine code so I can't help there.

Looking at the stamp its obvious to me that something went wrong when the guy hit the stamp. Likely lot of cursing becuase he probaly hurt himself. The 2DI seems to have been stamped apart from the rest of it.
I can find no suffix with a ?DI in it. AS for that other number, it makes no sense also. Can't explain this at all.
A suffix that has the lead characher as a number is a Marine Engine suffix but 2DI does not exist in my references. It possible it could be an irrigation/industrial engine application but I have no info on many of those.
The stamper..

It should have a VIN# if it was originally installed in a car/truck.

interesting.the c-10-7 is where the vin would be ands its upsidown compared to the other stamp.its probably a basic 350 although with a 2bbl 2.73 gears and tall 15"tires it has no problem leaving 20ft of rubber! thanks i thought the pics would be interesting anyway.heads do not have guideplates so valves are probably 1.94s i was hoping it was an lt1,guess not. great site much great info thanks again mark
