Hey all - Does anyone know what the finish is supposed to be on a 68-72 VIN tag? They appear to be black oxide and unpainted. Is that correct? Has anyone had to refinish one due to rust?

I think you're right on the money. The one on my 69 convert has a very light rusty look to it. Definitely not painted.

My unrestored 70 VIN tag is painted tan or saddle like the interior.Its a Baltimore car for what its worth.

Thanks Bill and Dean. I didn't think about cars with colored dashes, but that makes sense. Any other input?

My 69 Bal COPO also appears to be a black oxide type color..definatly not painted.
