I've searched and was just wondering if there's any new info on a bolt in crossmember for the 4L80E swap with no mods, or if anybody's got any pics of their modded crossmember bolted in so I can get some ideas. Thanks yall

I'll be using a OEM crossmember that I've modified. I mocked-up the block/trans fitment, and tried to maintain the original drivetrain angle. This might be somewhat overkill on bracing, however I won't be worried about strength. I plan to angle the straight ends, and cap, before painting. I'm definitely not a professional fabricator, but I think it'll work. This is for a 70' Chevelle. In the "Chevelle & parts" link below, I have 2 crossmember pictures among the others.

heres a pic of mine-i cut the mount off the x mem, slid it under the tail housing, welded it on the back side-took about 30 mins-i welded a tab for the emg brake cable
i have an LS motor in my 69, so my engine may be mounted a little diff-my trans had the return cooler line in the rear, so i welded a 90 deg AN fitting on to the stock fitting so it would clear the floor pan
when i pull the x mem to paint it, i might mod it where the exhaust goes under it for a little more room

Sweeeeet, thanks yall. This was my only big dilemma on how to get the tranny project working. I'll be going with the BRP mount kit for the 6.0L swap which comes with a new trans crossmember, I'll see if I could modify that one or just mess with the stocker to get it perfect.

I just got done building my crossmember. After doing some searching on the net, I came up with mine. I had just boxed in the frame, and the original one would not work. I also didn't want the crossmember to mount on top of the frame mount. I got the idea from this site.

http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131878

I used front upper control arm bushings to mount to the frame, and opened up the holes for side to side play. The original trans pad was cut off the old crossmember and welded on (that gave me front and back play). I also needed to make cut outs to clear my X-pipe. I also arched the crossmember with small press. My thought was the to copy the way a flat bed semi trailer looks.

Hope it helps,

Tim
